Point Being ? Hes not one of the problems with this team thats for sure and a keeper imo - buffalo 1
He's a keeper at the #6 slot, but this team seriously needs to improve the 3 and 4 slot.
Leo and Regehr need to go. |

A keeper? He's a 6th/7th guy. He's right they are a dime a dozen guy. People act like they want 6 Mike Webers on the blue line, we will lose more games that way. He in no way should be viewed as a keeper, he should be viewed as a guy that can be trusted when in the lineup, but can be replaced instead of over paid like Pardy did in Dallas. |

Exactly.
Some fans just love to hate on Weber just because he isn't flashy.

No one hates him because he isn't flashy. But he has been in and out of the lineup because of bad play for the least 3 years. He was 2nd on the defense in turnovers last year playing only 50 games. There's a reason an average guy like Sulzer was dressed opening night instead of Weber. No knock on Weber but this might be the first season he wasn't a train wreck by the end of the year. |

His point is that decent #6 and #7 defensemen are a dime a dozen. There are probably 20 or 30 defensemen in the league that does what Weber does just as well or better. There's nothing outstanding about his game whatsoever. It doesn't mean that he's a bad player, just that there's nothing special. - buffalofan19

I've been hoping that Weber can get to be a solid shut down guy. He just can't seem to do it consistently though. If he left or was traded, I wouldn't think twice about it. |

This team isn't better or worse with or without Mike Weber, their success depends on Myers, Ehrhoff, and Sekera playing well |

Turnovers are lame distorted inaccurate stat.
His game has settled in and he is a responsible reliable defenseman and hence the reason why he plays on the #1 PK unit.
Like I said we have differing opinions on Weber. I want him here for sure in the future.
Want to talk about a train wreck look no further than Tyler Myers especially for the lettuce he is being paid. I have had it up to my eyeballs with the excuses that accompany Myers horrific play.

In the salary cap era though players like Weber have good value because they can play on the 3rd pairing without killing the cap.
The problem with the Sabres this year and the past few is that we rely on the "economy" type players to play a full line (at least) above their ability or development. For example having Hecht is ok but playing him above the 4th line is crazy.
This fault here lies with the GM for not having a little more depth but also should rest at the feet of players like Stafford, Myers, Leino (when healthy), Regehr that do not play to their expected level. |

I agree, but the difference In Myers and Weber is just what you said. Sabres are horrible despite Weber playing his best hockey, he's not that important to the team. Myers on the other hand needs to be good for the Sabres to succeed, he was great last year when the Sabres made a run. |

i dont want 6 Mike Weber's on the blue line, but I'd take 6 guys that play as hard as him and care as much as he does. That's one of the huge problems with this joke of a group....no passion. |

Darcy is trying to move Stafford, but you know he is not getting offers that he feels are fair! Again, he holds onto his players to long. Look to see Staff in a package deal deal to LA or to Edm/Minny. |

Only so much one good defenseman can do like in Webers case, he can't play every minute. He is an even defenseman with only 4 points while playing on one of the pooptiest defensive teams in the league.
Kudos to Mike Weber for accomplishing that feat. |

Guys like Weber have to play with Passion or they don't make it to the AHL, they have limited skills. Which is fine, but there are guys like him on every squad, hence the dime a dozen comments. He's an ok player, decent bottom pairing guy who will stick up for his teammates. But absolutely nothing more. |

Agreed, he sticks up for his teammates, yea he sometimes comes out on the short end? But that's a teammate boys, what this team sorely lacks!
*Game #1 vs. Philly, Stafford sticks up for Ennis (thought it was great). What happen to him after that? He has had plenty of chances to do the same (ex Phanuef/Gerbe a couple weeks back). Why?????? |

Point being that this is the mentality that keeps both teams from winning championships. Everyone falls in love with the grinders, the ones that you can get anywhere. I'm not lobbying to get rid of Weber of all costs, but calling a guy like that a "keeper" just shows how clueless we are on how to win championships in this town. You win with top end talent, not guys like Weber. If they can make it happen and keep him on this roster, great, but Mike Weber on or off this roster doesn't make the Sabres significantly better or worse. That fact alone should take him off the "keeper" list. |
