I can imagine why Gringo was scared to screw up! Just ask Luke Adam, or Kassian what a few screw ups get you in Darcy and Lindy's "System."

Banishment!

Given the crap composition of this team, the atrocious power play and defense, how much worse would we have been if we had played Gringo on second or third line, and corrected his mistakes along the way?

29th overall instead of 28th? Who cares? Instead of working to improve the younguns, they are punished for not being CORE veterans. And let me ask you, do the rookies get to draw up the defense and power play schemes? Do they sign no talent bums to ridiculous contracts? Do they try the same monkey trying to (frank) a football power play shot from the point every fricking game, ad nauseum? Hmmmm, I'm gonna say nope to that one!

And before anyone jumps down my throat about Adam, Kassian, and Gringo not "proving" they need to be here, or "earning" it, if these guys are so fragile mentally, why did we draft them? Do scouts not look into character when profiling players? Ask Darcy about that one, too!

Screw it, I don't even care any more!

So your opposed to thinking Brennan could have gotten a better return when he was having an All -Star year in the AHL, your inclined to rather believe Darcy has somehow increased his value by playing him and has finally found a buyer after trying to trade him for 2 years?
- sbroads24

i never said anywhere that darcy increased his value

he never had any. drew schiestel was a perennial AHL player. why didnt anyone knock down the doors to trade/sign him?

buying a team didn't work for the rangers and it didn't work for the sabres. it just doesn't work.

buffalo has way too much talent to be this bad. change the culture to see what you have and then make decisions. from the outside the depth looks very good.

Miller, Grigorenko, 2013 2nd

for

Howard, Filppula, Martin Frk

Basically, Miller and our 2nd for Howard and Filppula. Both are UFA's at seasons end, so we would have to give them new contracts right away. Hopefully we could get Howard around 4.5-5M AAV over 8 years, and Filppula around $4-4.5M.

The rest of the deal is just swapping top prospects, but my thinking is that if we get a top 3 pick, we would be getting one of Frk's teammates in MacKinnon or Drouin. Datsyuk might be leaving in a couple years, and Grigorenko could be their C to replace him.

Howard is on the cusp of signing a 5-6 yr deal at 5 per.

U make some really good points sir...
I don't agree with all of it, but your overall point is well taken...

There's many players here who seem to have been handled terribly by the organization...
Ruff's fault? AHL coach's fault? Regier's fault?
At this point it really doesn't matter...
Since they all supposedly work "together" then they should all be held accountable... Only Ruff being fired is frankly a joke!
And I'm actually a Darcy supporter for the most part...
Mostly bc he has been an absolutely fantastic drafter the past 5years...

But there's no mistaking, this entire franchise has been horribly run for a while now... And while I appreciate all the fantastic picks that have been made, it doesn't make it ok for all the rampant mismanagement of those picks!

So we traded an AHL player and got a 5th? Ok.

When are the other AHL players going to be traded or waived?

Gerbe.
Weber.
Hecht.
Stafford.

- PassionBucket16

Weber does not belong in that group.
Weber is a legit NHL dman and has shown it this year IMO.

He's a legit number 6 or 7, yes. I guess I'd like to have a higher standard than accepting Mike Weber as someone we have to keep.

To be fair they can't all be 1st and 2nd line pairings.
Also , Weber has been playing an awful lot on the 1st PK unit.
I think he is more valuable then most give him credit for here.

Thank god you aren't a gm. Gerbe is worth is weight in gold and weber has been our steadiest d man and will drop the gloves. Hecht is making just over a million to be a responsible 2 way forward...and guess what. He has been. +5 on a team full of minuses.

Amazing analysis.

Which is a problem in itself. He's a 6th Dman. A decent one but nothing more than a bottom pairing guy. Our highest paid players like Ehrhoff, Myers, and Regehr need to be the ones on the first unit.

I don't think it's a problem that he is on the 1st PK unit. He has been a better defender than the names you mentioned.
As I said I think most just refuse to give Weber enough credit.

I don't think he's bad, but when he's the guy you have the most trust in, it's an issue IMO. It also speaks to how inconsistent everyone else on the defense has been

His point is that decent #6 and #7 defensemen are a dime a dozen. There are probably 20 or 30 defensemen in the league that does what Weber does just as well or better. There's nothing outstanding about his game whatsoever. It doesn't mean that he's a bad player, just that there's nothing special.

Good deal.I dont belive Detroits team is built around the goalie either which is the way Id like to see this team rebuilt or retooled. They just seem to plug a guy in and its works.

And my point is there is a reason he is on the 1st PK unit.
Most refuse to give him the credit he deserves as being a defenseman's defenseman.
Your opinion and my opinion on Weber differ.
Let's move along.
