Me neither. To be honest I thought Hedman's hit was worse. He caught him in the neck. |

OEL is closer to Letang than you think. - Oneonta Penguin
He does have a great offensive upside, but from what I've seen he doesn't have the strong defensive game, hence the reason I think the Yotes took Michalek from us. If a kid who hasn't truly proven himself gets 5.5 mil then Letang gets 6.5 to 7 mil easy. Pietrangelos contract will be the contract to look out for, not OEL's |

My question to you guys that are against the Iginla trade is, What would you guys be willing to give up if Iginla actually signed a 3 year deal in Pitt? I think giving up a future 1st and a D prospect isn't a bad idea. There's obviously enough D prospects to fill our future needs given how young Letang an Depres are. |

One player is in his third year in the NHL, while the other is in his sixth. OEL is farther along at this juncture of his career than Letang was three years ago. He has shown improvement in every area on defense every year while upping his offensive output on a team that can't score. I hate to say this, I would would consider trading Letang straight up for him now. |

And look at Pietrangelo. A guy getting out of his EL deal who has already proven to be one of the elite defenseman in the league. OEL isn't a guy you put in the game with a minute left protecting a lead. Letang is... Letang is a more true 2 way defenseman while OEL doesn't have that defensive side. Maybe he will, maybe he won't, but I wouldn't give that much to someone who hasn't truly proven to be your go to D guy yet. You give a player that salary based on what he already can do, not what you will hope he does. If that's the case, give Bennett a 4-5 mil per year contract now. |

If that was the case it wouldn't be a bad idea. But everyone knows that Iginla is going to resign in Calgary following the season. |

Guerin wasn't going back to the Island. He had few times there. Garry Roberts wasn't going back to the Panthers. That franchise was a mess. Neither of these guys had a 12-15-year career in the same place.
Kind of like Hossa? |

I find it interesting that almost every post that talks about our elite D prospects pretty much fail to include Harrington. - PENS FAN in CANADA
I've read stuff about how Harrington could become the most valuable defensive prospect we have.

to kind of get away from deadline deals... lets talk about offseason deals...
say Shero offers both Malkin and Letang fair deals... both of them want more but Shero cant afford to keep both.
who do you keep? who do you trade? realistically what do you ask from other teams for them? |

Listen, if Iginla waives his no trade clause to come to Pittsburgh is for one reason only: Win a Stanley Cup. These guys have too much pride and want to compete for the Cup. If he likes his chances here, he'll re-sign with us for sure. If he gets a cup in his first year here and wants to leave right after, so be it. A cup is more important than anything. Another thing: I doubt a Cup contender would pay him more than $4-5M/year. Do you understand my reasoning, Oneonta? Just don't come up with a "NO, you're wrong" BS |

personally I think he gets traded for a package similar to the ones talked about... Iginla is valuable, but teams aren't willing to pay an arm and a leg for guys anymore at the deadline.
I see a roster player, 1st, and an average prospect going the other way... |

No brainer: we keep Geno. We have too many d-man with potential to be special. Geno is a generational talent. No way you trade him. As for what we would ask for Letang: maybe a young stabilished top 6 forward and a d-man. |

And I think we could offer something like this. Just don't ask me who we would trade. Don't want to propose something ridiculous |

Really? Yes. Really.
I know everyone says Malkin Malkin Malkin... yet look at how this team has performed in the time when he is missing. compare that to the time when Letang is missing.
the return for Malkin would be absolutely huge.
not saying trade Malkin, but the answer isn't as easy as people think in my opinion |

You'll chase your tail for 20 years finding a talent like Malkin. Don't let the Pens uncanny luck in landing Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin cloud the judgment.
Fact is Letang will be replaced by a combo platter of Despres and Morrow. Orpik will be replaced by Harrington. I honestly have no worries about the state of the defense in the following years. |

And what did they cost the Penguins.
Guerin was acquired for a conditional pick that became a 3rd rounder in 09. So the 90th pick in that draft.
Roberts was acquired for Noah Welch. Who? Exactly.
I have a hunch that Iginla will be more costly than a conditional 4th rounder (3rd if the Pens make the playoffs) or a prospect who will become a waiter at my local Fatburger.

I'm not going to break my balls trying to keep Letang. Let him walk if its over 5 - 6 mil. I don't much care for Malkin but thats such an easy decision. |

What? $5M? That's what Paul Martin makes. Expect him to get between $6-7M in Pittsburgh and $7.5-8M if he goes to free agency. |
