Stan Bowman would go up about two notches as a GM for me if he had the creativity and stones to go out and get him.

And say you had to give up Leddy and a pick and a prospect. You could pretty much pencil the Hawks in for the Cup.

>The "quick-trade" of Big Buff after the Cup win really deflated me
>Like you, I think the guy is a special player who knows how to get it done when it matters most
>Leafs announcer was talking about him on XM the other day saying Buff is a far smarter player than most realize -- that Buff sees things that many others don't and will try to make plays that at first don't appear to be there -- often resulting in goals for the Jets

It would be a bold move but would be a worthy one. I like what he brings to the table....attitude, grit, muscle, skill, intimidation etc...

I have not seen any ballsy acquisitions since we won the cup so that does not bode well. Maybe this time will be different?

Hey Hawk management, time to listen to JJ.....can you hear him????

We are on the same wavelength. Over the summer I proposed a Leddy, Stalberg and McNeil trade for Byfuglien. He answers a lot of what ails the Hawks. A big shot from the point, big hits and a net presence in the playoffs. If they can make this deal, I would be ecstatic. On this team a trade off of Leddy for Byfuglien is a big win for the Hawks' playoff cup winning chances

I will also tell you about the whole "poison" thing. He was well-liked in the Hawk room, in spite of some snarky shi- Keith might have said about his effort once in the papers.

I do not know if I would include Leddy in the trade (Clendenning maybe), but I would be really tempted to do this. I am sure the Jets would be interested.

I’m tired of all this silly talk! Physicality and defense does not supersede skill and speed, especially in the playoffs. The Hawks don't need anything to get them over the top, that streak proves they are the best and don't require any tweaking. Instead of all this pointless talk about what the Hawks need to play in the post season where no one emphasizes defense, where physicality isn’t ramped up, where the trap will never be introduced and where the refs won't change how they call games, we need to spend this time planning the parade route and sizing ring fingers for the inevitable.

That's probably part of it. But he really can't skate either. And he is weak on his skates along the boards. Always has been.
- John Jaeckel

Thanks for the response, John. I didn't know he had a history of weak skating. His numbers for the Hogs certainly don't seem to reflect that, but the pace and speed of the NHL can really expose that. Hopefully he can pull things together because that 6'6" frame can do a lot if it's utilized properly.

Good friend of mine, former pro goalie (OHL and AHL) was his first agent. he told me in 2004, Buff had HOF talent.

I'll just say this, weight, likes to party on his boat, etc., all valid—he is a GOOD kid with gigantic talent. And when he turns it on, look out.

I respect your opinion but I would in a second. Leddy is a 5th D man on this team. Byfuglien is one of the top players in the league for the intangibles he brings to a Cup winning team

OK, now that I think about it, I saw Buff last spring when the Jets played the Caps. He was a force out there, and I think he scored on a shot that broke the defenders stick before it went in. Let's do the trade with Leddy...just for fun

He needs to be "On" more often. He can be and is a force when he wants to be, but he takes way too many games off. He is 27 and in his 6th year. Time for him to decide whether he can be the HOF player or just another in a long list of guys who never played up to their full capabilities.

RE: Interest in Bollig...

Not terribly surprising or particularly telling. John Scott was moved for a pick last year...that one was a shocker.

Bollig would be a fine toss-in as part of a bigger deal.

But if all guys are on a 1-10 scale and he's a 7 in the regular season and a 9.5 in the playoffs, so then he's not a 10. But he's net a lot better than most guys. So who cares? $5 million a year isn't that much. See Getzlaf's deal? Shawn Horcoff? Volchenkov? Etc.

EXACTLY. Which was why, along with 11 huge goals, he deserved the Smythe in 2010.

And . .

In 2006, when he came into camp at 245, I saw him skate Fedorov down at full flight from behind in an exhibition game. Kid is an amazing athlete.

Intesting question, probably why one of the impending FAs would need to go the other way at minimum.
