I agree. The way they played tonight they lose 7 out of 10 times to nj instead of 9 out of 10.

Still way to many turnovers in between the red line and opponents blue line.

They still have no idea how to maneuver through the neutral zone. If they weren't turning it over they were dumping it. But nj could not bring an end to end game tonight either. Good on flyers.

One thing the flyers corrected tonight is getting all 3 forwards caught deep in their end

Maybe it's baby steps. For one night it changed.

It just continues to amaze me why they cannot get the puck in deep at times. A seemingly simple play too often turns into an adventure going back the other way.

Too little, too late.

Perhaps, but you'll be watching. Which is really all they want in the first place - to sell tickets or advertising on TV/radio.

One too many moves. Too many artsy-fartsy dangle tries that are stymied instead of simple plays.

The Devils couldn't go end to end because the Flyers were disciplined and not reckless, and didn't create freeways to skate through.

Nj just seriously dominates on the walls and I'm not sure if that can change until the kids grow some

Homer's message must have took hold.

Either pay attention to the game plan or schedule a Bauer Composite-ectomy.

in other news, I can't believe that sports teams haven't learned that relying on fax machines is a bad idea.

Well...glad they got the W. Need to string some Ws together...or just commit to doing your best impersonation of the '83-'84 Pens

I knew they'd win when the Homers on the Devs feed put up the "Devils 7-0 vs. Flyers in shootout" stat. Told my 4 year old that it was the "kiss of death" for the Devils...

I don't care how they did it, I am just glad they beat the Debbies.

So, that stuff didnt happen then?

Give me a break.

This team has zero shot at the playoffs.

guess what, when you're playing well, you get some luck too, and bryz was fantastic last night. luck goes both ways...like the devils deflection goal could have just as well been blocked entirely, gone wide or even redirected into bryz. he was great in the 3rd period, and OT and was patient in the SO.

and we all know they're not making the playoffs, so you're not informing of us something new. one has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

Did they sit back or did NJ just close down the passing lanes and effectively pick up their checks? The Flyers had a difficult time getting the puck in deep all game and turned the puck over at the attacking blueline continuously.

The Flyers still played dumb enough to lose but Breeze held serve until they were able to somehow win in the SO.

Oh well, a win is a win, even though the Debs walked out with a point also.

the flyers dumped the puck a ton, and rarely got it back. devils seemed to have it most of the night. board battles, open ice turn overs...everywhere.

i appreciate the flyers change in patience, it got them the 2 points because of their goalie, but as others have said, plenty of dumb, and STILL, STILL, STILL, several oddman rushes against even while being less aggressive. they could have easily been blown out in this game.

It's a work in progress. It's not all going to be fixed overnight. But they took steps in the right direction in last night's game.

That's what the discussion was about. What the problems are this Season, and what should have been done to adjust this Season. Did you notice the adjustments the Coach finally made last night?

OK, and I'm suggesting that the problems can't be fixed in the short term. Sort of like what you said a few posts ago.

I noticed the way the team played...I have no idea what the coach said to the players. Are you suggesting that Laviolette has been convinced to change his "system" over the last few days? Great! The season is saved! Now the players can all play in a system they are comfortable with. What I saw was a team that got blasted by the GM and were finally able to put together a win. It's not like they blew-out the Devils. If not for a strong game by Bryz we'd be talking about another Flyers loss.

Would you really expect the Flyers to blow out the Devils? When a team has played as poorly and as undisciplined as the Flyers have. It's doesn't fix itself overnight. It happens in steps. And it's a process. And you have to look for improvements. Nobody, myself included thinks the Flyers played a perfect game. And that there still isn't major areas where improvement is needed. So I'm puzzled by your response.
Look at the way the Flyers played last night strategy wise. Instead of the press forecheck, they played a 2-1-2 forecheck. Kept the 3rd forward high consistently. And kept the defenseman back consistently. It led to an improved defensive effort. Not perfect, but improved. That is what we're looking for. That is what we've been talking about. Make adjustments. And start to improve. Probably too little to late to make the playoffs. But it's a start to build a foundation for the future. But it was one game. We'll see if it's a temporary change or a permanent one.
