My issues with Laviolette are not entirely related to this season.

Funny, you complain about goalies and defensemen not getting developed, but the Flyers had Bobrovsky. Laviolette buried him after one bad period in the playoffs, which led to Bryzgalov coming in.

Trading Bob is starting to look worse and worse. I was never comfortable with him leaving as I alwaysargue we need to start to get some organizational depth. Now we have to overwork Bryz and have no real option to spell him as our backups can't cut it.

Weber was a 2nd rounder.

Well a hot week doesn't mean a great career, otherwise Boucher would be an all star. But to bash Holmgren and the organization for not being able to develop goalies, while defending Laviolette, when the coach was a big part of why Bob was moved seems, I dunno, (frank)ing retarded

Just about everything since the last 4 games of the series with the Devils has blown up in their collective faces Ted Kaczynski style.

LOL, I am making an isolated comment regarding Bob. I know why it's all been done, but this move bothers me the most because of the clear potential Bob has. One week doesn't make a career, but I think he's got the tools to be more than a backup.

He probably does. he certainly looks great for Columbus thus far and he certainly showed flashes here in Philly. I think his best asset is that he likes to work on his game. It's not a chore for him. Everyone who has ever been around him mentions that he busts his tail.

If you've ever seen Paul Holmgren in person, he's still an intimidating dude.

I don't think his little speech is gonna have any impact whatsoever, but I'm willing to bet he was pretty salty.

- johndewar

agreed.

besides, despite what Homer might say, I don't think the issue is whether this team "works" hard enough as it is being aggressive to a fault. If they clean up some of these defensive lapses, and constant odd man rushes, they'll suddenly look like a much harder working team.

of course, I fully expect a 2 on 1 against on the first shift tonight.

Honest question. If the Flyers were playing well as a team, and making strides. In a playoff position. Do you think all of these discussions on past trades, draft picks, would be happening. Do you think regardless of how well he is playing, that it would be the topic of discussion?

Yep. They were talking last night about how well Suter and Subban were playing with their respective teams. The lack of a number one Dman like either of those or Weber has really crippled us. This does not excuse our play this year as I concur with others that many other teams have done more with less. With the talent here, we are not a contender, but should be a playoff team. Anything less is not acceptable.

don't forget that it's one week with a different team in front of him ... one that plays defensively responsible hockey. I don't think he'd be getting the same results here.

Again spot on. One of the recent topics is the Flyers drafting Couturier instead of Dougie Hamilton. Put Couturier in Boston, and Hamilton here. Think there's any chance Couturier would be thriving and Hamilton would be struggling here? Then the topic would be they should have taken Couturier.

I am not sure about others, but in general you would hear it from me regarding Bob/the goaltending. If you go back, I have always advocated compiling tenders like Nashville has done so that you can play the odds that one turns into a stud, also to be more patient. I have no issue with Bryz. Lately he has not been as good, but it's not all on him. Early in the year, he kept us in tons of games. I just wanted to keep Bob as well.

Don't you know that Couturier stinks and that last year was an anamoly? And that Dougie Hamilton has proven beyond a doubt that he's a future HOFer?

Bobrovsky has a .927 save %, Mason the backup in Columbus in 10 starts has an .897 save %. How do you explain the stark differences?

All of a sudden Columbus is a defensive stalwart team? I find that pretty amusing.

Coach needs to give this pre-game speech:

Guys, we are not playing the Penguins.

Yeah, I know crazy pond hockey works every time against the Penguins. I love watching it too. Huge tv ratings. We sell a lot of beer at the concession stands.

Yes, I get it: we beat the Penguins every time by just doing whatever we want. That's great. I appreciate everything you guys do on state rivalry night.

But please note: tonight we are not playing the Penguins.

OK?

Cooter is still a fantastic player that will be very good for a long time. Sophomore slump.

It's either that, or politely ask the other team to play like the Penguins.
