Whie I can agree that adding more kids may not be great; I also disagree that the Oilers need to make some big move. I dont think the time is right. Oilers still lack depth. They cannot trade away the assets they have for an over hyped over paid hole filler. Be patient. If there is a player that is an upgrade and it doesnt cost much then do it. Other wise keep building. Dekeyser woould likely be a good 5-6 guy. I am totally against signing onld FA's that are nothing more than filler.

Making a big move right now would set this team back. Not move them forward. They are not at a point where adding a big name will push them over the hump. There is improvement this year. Look at a couple blown games with Dallas/Vancouver/LA , this team could easily have a 4-5 extra points right now and be in the thick of it.

Patience. No stupid moves. And moving any of the kids right now would be a stupid move in my opinion.

no. dekeyser is NOT exactly what this team needs.

at some point one would think ud finally realize that filling every hole an nhl team has with rookies IS NOT the answer.

it seems like evrytime u put up a new 'hopeful' roster it includes whoever the latest sexy rookie happens to be.

we dont currently need more 18 year olds. or more picks.

we need established veteran players that understand the pro game and can make a difference immediately.
not some fukin college kid who may or may not ever be nhl material.
and 9/10 will provide almost no immediate help. generally more of a hinderance actually.

the same goes for klefbom next year too. uve been touting this oft injured, talented kid as our next saviour for so long. he very well may be, but people need to realize he might not have the good for us for 3 more years...if ever!

we need vets. not more kids

I still like the idea of Stewart and or Clowe. IMO Clowe would be cheaper, he is having not the greatest year. Just imagine both... Beast mode on each line!!!
And then moving the 1st rounder for Gardiner. This trade will help both teams as the leafs aren't using him on the big club, and will prolly get a high end 1st round pick were they can draft a star center.

This makes no sense to me. I dont think Gardiner is the answer, and why in the hell would the Oilers want to help the Leafs? Gardiner is not even in their line up right now. I would take him. But not for this years first. If I'm the Oilers the Last thing I want to do is help ANY other team draft a star Center.

Depending on the price. I would swap out Hemsky for something and put Stewart or Clowe in the top 6.

yeah i'm with you on gardiner. i wouldn't give leafs edm 2013 first pick. if gardiner was really the only missing piece to the team's success, sure, but edm needs to just stay the course and keep an eye out for something useful long term.

i would take stewart or clowe over hemsky, because those two would help edm, but i doubt blues or sharks wants either one in return.

I'd like to find a way to keep hemksy, although I may be his last supporter in all of Edmonton

While I agree with you, you cant really call Klefbom oft-injured. Its one injury that needed a surgery.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't his last two years cut short by injury?

I recall something about a leg laceration and infection. Honestly not sure if that cut his season short. Was just saying its a little early to be calling him oft injured.

Alright then. You can have your opinion, but I've gotta believe that you're one of the few who would do so. Now, you've come in here expressing the same thing a number of times and I thought it would be evident that very few (if any) of us agree with you or ever will. What's that they say about the definition of insanity?
- MaximumBone

I have to agree. I am from BC and I can't even get a good debate going anymore at work. Even with the canucks winning, my die hard fans won't argue the Oilers talent. They use to gang up on me and now one has started watching more Oilers games than canucks because of the fast paced youngsters. Vancouver is going the way of Calgary but with two Iginla's. I really think your of the minority with that opinion.

How much are we going to have to pay for those 2? If it was indeed a 1st for 2014 and some prospects I would be fine with it... however- I will ask this- how much better is clowe as a top 6 fwd option than Eager??? Just curious as Clowe offensively this year alone does not blow me away as an answer... more so far from it...

nobody knows how good dekeyser will be, or this jensen kid

Same with any rookie really. People can predict but making that transition to the NHL doesn't always work and then their are others that are complete surprises.

I say clouts and co are way out to lunch thinking he will even earn a spot on the roster next year... he lost alot of development this year and he was injured the year prior... considering him bandaide potential is not that far off either IMO... we may see him in oiler silks 2 years from now if we are lucky... but hey here's to proving me wrong...

I know you didnt I was kind of responding to your post about durability and also responding to others comments about Klefbom being on the team next year or having actual trade value- which is amazing

Oh I definitely think hed have trade value, just not what people imagine right now. I also think he'll need some seasoning in the AHL before he can make the jump. Its not a bad thing. If he came in and challenged for a roster spot right away then cool. Dont see that happening hough.

This makes no sense. Who you bumping off the top line for Clowe? I like Stewart for Hemsky. Not directly as Hemsky would go else where and Stewart would be picked up for other assets but that replacement.

Other than that I wouldn't touch our top 6. Nail is ready. We need a fast center that is good on the draw for line 3 in the offseason and then dump our surplus dmen for 2. One can be signed as a UFA hopefully (Striet). After that we need to trade dubnyk as a salary dump and go after Smith, Backstrom or Lou.

Then Get rid of Lowe (I recommend me but anyone would be better). The replacement gets rid of Mac T (job doesn't have do anything), Steve (he doesn't do anything) and offer Krueger his assistant coach position or his severance. Then bring in a Veteran GM and a Veteran Coach. Maybe Katz could step in as President in the Interim. A few owners do this. Offer Smyth an assistant coach position in OKC if he retires on his own so he doesn't have to be bought out.

Any rookie dmen is good but we really just need two 30ish top 4 guys and to resign fistric.
