Yes Vanek will get paid, but is 8 million really any worse than what he gets now? He still has next season to go, what if he isn't amazing?
Just watched the interview with Pominville, can't believe they asked if he has talked to Darcy about getting traded..
Wouldn't mind if they traded him though - rsj2588
His cap hit is 7.142, his salary is 6.4.
IMO 7.1 should be where he's at in his next contract. If Darcy and Larry would've kept their mouths shut, that is right what he's be looking at right now. |

I don't think he's better than Miller.
In fact I think he can put up the same numbers (or close to)Miller does for a much lower cost. - dadeadhead
Not on this team he wont. |

Hence the can.
On the teams Miller has played behind up until this year, IMO Bernier would've been no better and no worse. |

Yep.
I'd like him to come in and sign a similar deal as Halak did(maybe a tad less money). |

Here is another question: Do you believe that Darcy can get it done??
Everyone in here is talking all these trades!
I think the FIRST thing that has to be done is to pull the plug on Darcy!
Only thing that Darcy has done OK is drafting.
I don't think he can pull a major trade! - Sabresfan88
Hodgson, Drury & Briere would all disagree
And his drafting has been really good lately...
Although Catenacci, Armia & Grigorenko all fell so far they were practially no brainers |

Remember, he didn't want to trade for Drury. Thought it was to much to give up. Quinn supposedly pulled the trump card and forced him. |

I think the Sabres can get Vaneks cap hit down to $6.5 while still getting him good money for the next 5 years.
$8-$8-$8-$7-$7-$6-$4-$4 = $52M / 8 years = $6.5M per.
Gives him $38M in the first 5 years which is $7.6M avg. Then still paying him a pretty $4M per when hes 37 and 38 years old and still leaves him with the possibility of getting at least 1 more contract at the end of his career at 38.
He'll already be 30 turning 31 in the first year of that contract. If they give him 8 years, theres no way they can justify paying a 38 year old $7M+... he can sign a contract like ive given above with adjusted numbers. I believe you cant go less than 50% of the max in any single year.

I said Staff for Clutterbuck yesterday. I think it's perfect... Although adding Seto for Leo makes it lopsided for us. - LetsGoBuffalo75
I hear they want to get rid of him pretty bad, his salary is too high for his production. Leopold is a rental so it would be sort of a salary dump for them.

We can also probably get a similar deal with Ryan Miller.
I think Miller and Vaneks next contracts, since they get that extra year with Buffalo, can have a reduced cap hit over their prior contracts.

I agree!!!
Miller does not get enough respect, IMO.
Although, he has this "D" corp that turns the puck over and over continously, he has remarkable numbers! |

Disagree on both parts.
We sucked when Dom left because our owner was stealing money and then we were run by Bettman. |

IMO Miller is gone. He's got too many reasons to leave this team, starting with an inadequate front office not capable of putting a team even CLOSE to even competing since 2006.
That starts the list. |
