this team is two top 6 forwards and 2 top 4 dmen away from the playoffs...its not that far off..once again look at the oilers..they are a hot mess...the kings and blackhawks were bad for a LONG time...i understand everyones frustration but this team for all its faults is getting there (slowly) - NYI78
If you throw in a coach who has half a brain I agree. Why do you guys bring up the Oilers all the time? Did I click on Cloutiers thread by accident? |

Went from drafting smallish, fragile, forwards or offence minded D to large, defensive types and all D. - Cptmjl
donovan kitchon and pedan all have offensive upside and they arent midgets..size is over rated any way..you can be 5'10 and be tough as nails and be 6'5' and be soft as tissue paper (see ty wishart) |

The Islanders, they are several things but not a tough team.
Boston, for example, has a tough team. - bixll

Donovan? Yeah, well see? Surprised you did'nt throw in Mayfield too? I know small players can be tough too but the point being is we have had the softest team in the league since Snow took the reigns, he built this team. That was his plan, small, fast, mobile. Plans change. Last year he drafted all tough D, for the most part. Don't skirt over the point. |

i honestly forgot about mayfield..my point is i beleive there is a conscious effort to address it at least through the draft... cizikas.. martin..not soft..perrsson sundstrom all good size and grit..the problem is no physical presence in the top six...that is a glaring weakness... |

I agree, there certainly was. The point of this convo is Garf makes misstakes and has an knee jerk/over reaction to said misstake, last years draft was a good example. Everyone of us knew this team lacked toughness on D for years now. Garf figured it out last July. |

If this team makes the playoff they will be steam rolled and half our guys will be lost to injury in the first game in that case GArth will have to bring up some of the young guys |

So, really. They must be a very tough team, I never looked at it that way. Garth may be right. |

I am surprised he wasnt like who??? I swear I have never seen such a clueless coach in my life. I mean except Steve Stirling - kasperrko
Word is he's considering putting Boulton in too....Ugh. Said first two lines remain the same but not sure how the bottom 2 will go. |

They had some toughness towards the end of 2010-2011. I don't think many teams looked forward to playing them down the stretch (of course the Isles were already out of the playoff hunt). However, I'd have to agree with you. That was an exception. |

the real number one issue to me is the lack of a good head coach. That's going to be a boat anchor for this team until they can find one and get rid of cappy.

I love when people say this. Other teams are so frightened of the islanders for the last couple years during the games leading up to the playoffs that they play their back up goaltenders and rest their stars players against us. That line is a Butch Goring favorite |

You did watch them play right? Are you really trying to debate this? Do i have to tell you that majors is not a good indication of a teams toughness? |
