If you are willing to give up some of your other young talent....

Which is where these guys saying trade Hall/Nuge/Yak are off. It creates a bigger hole than it solves.

Are the Oilers willing to part with 3 or 4 young up and comers (MPS/Harti/Lander/Klefbom) to get one big star? I wouldnt, but thats just me.

- Iggysbff

Schenn and Simmonds at that point were more on par with Klefbom and Hemsky/Gagner than they are Hall and Eberle.

Suck it is all I got, seeing as how I really have no animosity for the Habs (well not since over 20 years ago) and they are leading the Leastern Conference so can't even take shots at em for doing bad. Whats it like to not be trollable right now? Haven't known that for over 4 years.

Uh, I would absolutely trade Klefbom, Harti and Lander to get a guy that if we're lucky Klefbom might become in 5 or 6 years.

If someone is offering the likes of McDonagh/Staal/Del Zotto for Harti, Klef and Lander, the oil take it and run.

What makes him in any way different than Eager? He's good in the dot? Obviously not good enough to avoid getting waived as well.

I get that. But at this point does it make sense for the Oilers to give up MPS,Klefbom, Ganger and a first for Say OEL? As much as I'd love to have him....Thats what the cost would be. Then who fills the other holes?

Obyrn - not an upgrade
Clitsom - not an upgrade
Streit - possibly. Would be a good fit. Just depends on how much he wants.
Ribeiro - Seriously??? no thanks.
Morrow - Dont want him.
Ryder - Again? At what price?
Backstrom - Will get a ton of money. Not worth it IMO.

hed be traded. hes being recovering form a back injruy, but has been skating. im sure hell get some playing time to showcase him a bit. i just dont see where he fits... but if he pushs ryan white out.. edm should make a pushfor white... man the kid is an ideal 4 line center.

noki was added mid seaosn and was more of an upside to the habs terrible team. nothing about the habs last seson can be judged except the coaches and management. i dont care what anyone says, no one wants to play under those circumstances.. this city was dead.. boring games etc etc... noki tho, crushing hits, has some hand and brings energy. he was brought in because he was good on the dot.

That may be the cost for OEL, but not for any impact defenseman anywhere.

I'm not saying we go out and pay whatever the cost is to pry a guy off a team that doesn't want to let him go. I'm saying that if the 1st is a sticking point in a trade for a solid dman, in my mind it's not a deal-breaker.

Hemmer is on the block. We're probably also willing to trade one of our 2nds. If we're getting a dman, we could probably afford to trade a D prospect. That's enough for Tambs to put the feelers out and see what would need to be added. If a good dman gets shipped at the draft for a package we could have afforded, I'm going to be FURIOUS. That's enough for me to call for Tambs' firing, on the spot.

I meant that there would have to be a first in whith that package of players.

I would doubt that just Harti/Klef/Lander would even get the Rags to keep listening. It would need to be one of Hemsky/Gags, Klef, one of Harti/Lander pus a first to get McDonagh.

It's all speculation at this point. Me, I just dont see it right now. I dont see anyone giving up a top 2 D man (signed to a contract that is not ridiculous) for a package of picks and prospects.

Edmonton has had three first overall picks in a row (and are turning into nhl quality players) but your defense is sooooo thin dubnyk and khabbi regularly get hung out to dry.with all the growing pains with those young guns and no defense how can any of your fanbase continue to heap unrealistic expectations on a bunch of 20 somethings and guys barely out of their teens or still in them? Be patient and these guys will reward you with wins it doesnt happen over night, but it will happen.these guys are good.look at what happened with the kings lots of homegrown talent and then the addition of the right character free agents and trades and cup! Just give it some time to develop, just my opinion good luck.

obyrn and clitsom add wieght on the back end and are defensively sound... if the talk of obyrn coming back to mtl are true id welcome that in a heart beat!

have you ever watched rebeiro play? check his stats this year and hes your #1 center. picture him with hall and eberle... youre stupid not to do that. hall and eberle have more drive in their butt hairs than ovi does.. rebeiro is their best player!
nuge is your 2nd c

ryder solid 30 g scorer whos won a cup. again size and grit on the wing. trade hemsky for def help.

at backstroms age you oculd probably get him for less.

We may have to agree to disagree here. In your mind, the 1st may be a non-starter. In my mind, it's not.

Hemsky, Klef, Lander and a 1st would be a really big package. Biggest deal in years, and bigger proportionate to the player than the Carter, Richards, Staal and perhaps even Nash deals. Obviously you need to know what you're doing if you're making a trade like that.

I don't wanna get into specifics and speculation, I just think trading the 1st in a package deal isn't an automatic loss for the oilers, especially if it's outside the top 10.

I agree. Some people just have no patience. There are still more peices needed, but I'd rather bide our time than make decisions that are stop gaps.

Yeah true. We both said it's pure speculation. That being said, a guy like JBo does have a ridiculous contract, and that's precisely why he's more likely than others to be available. It expires in two years though, which means it really doesn't cramp our cap that much, short of Gagner and MPS becoming surprise 100 point players.

Again, not talking speculation, but in a league where teams seem to either be cash-scrapped or cap floor, we might be poised to take on a good player with a bad contract.

See, trading for Visnovsky or signing Robyn Reghr is a stopgap imo.

Trading for a 25-27 year old dman is of a different order. Maybe not worth depleting our prospects over, but certainly a better use of our resources than the former.

Agreed. Jones-Nuge-Eberle could be money.

With MPS playing well, and Petrell providing more physicality, Harti's the odd man out
