great points, and i agree seeing a florida team come to qc would be the likely scenario! i was watching the game last night with a nordiques fan taking about if a team from florida came to qc, what a lucky break that wowuld be! finally those teams would get great fan support!
stoked to see the det and leafs rivalry heat up again... would have loved to see chi come back to the east tho. man original 6 back in the east!! love it! - munky123
Being from Halifax, QC would be a team that I could actually see consistently in person! Only an 8 and a half hour drive if you know when and where to speed.
I've been attentively following the Florida teams and Phoenix, because I have a feeling one of those rosters is going to end up being the Nordiques.
The Oilers would obviously still be my #1, but the Nords could be my eastern conference team |

I can say with as much certainty that they're available as you can that they're not available. Zilch either way, as we're not insiders.
- Philly is up against the cap. Wouldn't surprise me to see a guy like Mezaros go.
- NY Rangers are also up there with McDonagh still to re-sign. Staal or Del Zotto could be on the move.
- Boyle, Oduya, Bouwmeester and Campbell all have bloated contracts. They could go.
- Buffalo has a log-jam of defensemen, so a guy like Sekera could be traded.
That's all pure speculation. But not every player demands to be traded like Rick Nash. We're not going to know someone was available until a trade happens. If in a hypothetical world there's a dman available around draft time, and the cost includes a 1st round pick, Tambs would be foolish not to consider it. - Morris
Mezaros I dont think helps the team.
McDonagh would be great or Stall or Del Zotto. But the Rags are not moving anyone right now. Maybe this summer.
Boyle, Oduya, Boumeester, Campbell contracts would hurt the team going forward. Jbo would be interesting, but I highly doubt Calgary would trade him to Edmonton.
Sekera is by no means going to improve our D. |

I was thinking about East vs West today while looking at the standings. Being that they didn't get a chance to do inter-conference games this year with the tight scheduling, I think there's a very real possibility that the cup finals could be a 4-1 or 4-0 series.
We have no idea who's better or worse as a conference. We can only assume that Chicago, Pittsburgh, Anaheim and Montreal are among the best teams this year, but we have no idea who's better: Vancouver or Ottawa? Boston or LA? It could make for a very exciting - or very disappointing playoffs. - Morris
Very good point! I know that the segregation of the conferences saves the owners a bunch of money, but as a fan, I hate it. |

Well I was thinking more at the draft than right now. A) We get to feel out where our draft choice is, and whether it's at all worth trading (top 5 - definitely not, top 10 - for the right return, top 15 - more comfortable moving it still) and B) By that time other teams are feeling the cap crunch.
In any case, it's all speculative, but there will be a lot of cash-strapped teams this summer and we might be able to get good deals. Even looking at the Richards deal, they gave up Simmonds, Schenn and a 2nd, so good players can be had without trading a first. |

thanks for actually responding with intellegence.
the only part that im confused with regards to the realignment is how a team like the nordiques could be penciled in, unless like morris pointed out, a florida team could be dropped.
was looking at the stats last night, cant believ how tight the west is. still i think when it comes to depth and gritty teams, the east takes it. actually that was more valid last year, seeing as philly has dropped of the face of the earth. nyr is a shadow of the team last year.
team to watch tho, a resurgance if you will is a healthy ottawa. that team is what the oilers should be modeled after.. perfect blend of young and vets.. scary how good they are with all those injuries. (frank)ing incredible coaching astaff too - munky123
Oilers wanted to be like this. Unfortunatly the Vets they kept and tried to build around were the wrong guys. They didnt have Spezza and Alfie and Phillips. We had Horcoff, Hemsky. Not the same. Hence the longer timeline to retool. |

If you are willing to give up some of your other young talent....
Which is where these guys saying trade Hall/Nuge/Yak are off. It creates a bigger hole than it solves.
Are the Oilers willing to part with 3 or 4 young up and comers (MPS/Harti/Lander/Klefbom) to get one big star? I wouldnt, but thats just me. |
