How about Hossa for Stephen Gionta...straight up? I mean, he leads the Devils in hits, which is a SUPER important stat.

You know, sidebar to my jestful comment, I enjoy watching the devils play. They were on NBCSports last night. Maybe it's just because they beat the snot out of the Flyers, but I give them credit for always finding a way.

There needs to be a sarcasm buttom for posts. Something where my text is blinking in red while you read it to indicate that I'm full of crap.

Obviously I'm not serious.

What i'm saying is the Hawks and Habs are 2 of the best 5 teams in the league right now. There are pretty good players on both sides and players that don't play as good as the rest of the team.

There is a connection between MB and SB.

There are a lot of rumors of talks between the two teams. Don't know if its true and if it is, if it's gonna work. But it certainly make sense.

Friendly reminder, remember nobody is gonna take Stalberg in a trade and give up real value unless he signs an extension at that time or before. He will be a UFA

Otherwise he is a rental. And no matter his upside, no body will give up big value for him without assurance he is staying.

Keep this in mind.

I am on record as saying he goes nowhere this year and the Hawks will figure it out whenever the season is over. That is my two cents.

The call up of Hayes is more about rewarding his efforts in the AHL, showcasing his size and hands to possible trade partners.

If it doesn't work out, they will try someone else.

I don't think they are close to panic mode.

This is all about keeping momentum, and if he helps he sticks awhile.

Hayes biggest attribute seems to be when he is behind the opposition net.

When setting up the screen, he never really got to enough pucks or back in transition.
He has never been a player with a quick twitch or edge.
A skilled big man who can play strong on the puck and body, but only quick once moving.

Hey, I am all for him getting a chance to show additional development and versatility.

All this involved thought about additions!

This team lives and dies around the health and performance of it's core and the successful banacing of the lines, Dee pairings, and the entire team continuing to hustle to win pucks.

I just don't see one guy radically changing the room, the way teams approach the Indianhead, or bringing some "glue" form the outside that makes them unbeatable.
Everyone can be beat with parity, and the streak proved strong commitment get you over the enemy.

Uh oh...now you've gone and done it! You've angered True Grit, he doesn't believe in showcasing (or Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy - but the Easter Bunny is real).

we said it before beefy, we know you don't like that type of game guys like him & Ott play, maybe the european no check game suits your style better!
even the hawk commentators said in a recent game, that there needs to be more contact & aggression from the guys. some of us think this coach is turning carcillo into another powder puff! you think torts, trotz or lindy ruff would follow the same suit? this team is soft, not because of the individuals on it but probably because thats the way the coaches want them to play?????

- wonthecup10

Lindy Ruff got fired... Has never won a Cup...

Trotz has never won anything of substance...

Quenville has won a Stanley Cup is 1st among active coaches in regular season wins, 1st among active coaches in playoff wins and the Scotty Bowman system speaks for itself.

Oh and best start to a season EVER. Second longest not losing in regulation streak EVER.

Plus the Hawks are an entertaining team to watch unlike Buffalo or Nashville.

Congratulations on a well crafted argument.

FYI --- I have no problem with a physical hard checking team. I have a problem with irresponsible bozos like Carcillo, Cooke, Torres and the like ruining the game and sometimes very good players careers.

Ok i understand your point on Hossa not neing traded or buyed out. Hossa is not the only players on that team.

And saying a deal with Habs is unlikely because they potentially meet in SCF, is a little bit of a stretch.

- soad_live

It is less likely for that reason, not a stretch.

In all fairness Trotz and Ruff never had the talent Q had in 09-10 and this season.

Longevity in coaching is as much an attribute to Q's numbers as anything. As for the streaks, who cares? Ask the 79-80 Flyers. EDIT: And I couldn't care less about making the final. I lived that 3 times before 2010 and I don't feel any better about those losses in '71, '73 and '92.

And Carcillo has had more issues with refs than other players. He's taken bad penalties but is not on par with Cooke, Torres or that felon Bertuzzi. Plus the 'Hawks are more modeled after players like Toews and Hossa than they'll ever be after Carcillo.

That said, I like what Carcillo can bring to the team. But we all know if he slips up, he will be replaced - at the drop of a hat.

Bang the f--- on. You nailed it, Wiz.

They have kicked the tires on or asked about a variety of guys with size of late: McLaren, Sestito, others.

Hayes is being given an audition to see if he can add some of that element. I'm not sure how physically difference making he can be, but I also agree with you, where he can be really effective is down low in a "half-court" style game. His skating has improved marginally and he will hit some people. Not sure if he can keep up with 2nd liners defensively in the NHL. In fact, I don't think he can. That was an "issue" with Brouwer. Hayes is slower than Brouwer.

But worth a shot.

Huge issue with Brouwer. But Troy made up for it in many other ways. Hayes can too ... in a couple years.

I will not speak for my fellow Florida transplant, but I believe Wiz was using Showcase as a synonym for audition .

He is not being showcased for other teams. He is auditioning to fit a role the current team needs.

So lets take it easy there boys....
