Should we use a compliance buyout on Giroux?
- BulliesPhan87

I would. Then we wouldn't have to pay him

Not seriously I hope

The biggest problem is the head coach. We have enough talented forwards but they are not being played in roles where they will succeed and there basic system is way off. D obviously needs an upgrade but team structure is what is missing and that is the coaches responsibility. I say fire Lavi, release Knuble, buyout Danny in the offseason and hire a coach with a great track record of success if you can find one.

I like quite a lot of it. It's not a perfect team, but it also shouldn't be a 29th place team.

I guess if changes were gonna be made after last night, they would have been made by now.

At the minimum I'd like to see Murray brought up as an assistant coach. Get someone in there who actually understands and teaches team defense.

Even though i do agree that hey have done a good job drafting forwards, I disagree that they should ALWAYS take best player available. I think you have to have a longer range view...which they clearly don't...and look at the needs of your pipeline as well.

This year if it is Drouin vs Jones, especially since Drouin is not a Center, I'd be ok with it but last year still makes no sense not to draft Maata or Thrower in first or 2nd round.

- TheGreat28

If they rated Laughton ahead of Maata, then they should have picked Laughton.

If they were equally rated, I'd lean towards positional drafting.

In the 2nd-7th round, I'd lean more to positional drafting. Round one you need to land a good NHLer.

I'd go with Terry Murray. He's already on the payroll and he holds guys accountable. He's a good teacher, and he instills discipline. He's also not married to any system and is willing to coach what he has on hand.

He'd only be my interim guy, I'd look for a new name in the summer, preferable somebody like Jon Cooper, Dallas Eakins or Steve Spott

- Jsaquella

Fixed! Murray now,

Dallas Eakins in the offseason.

Detroit has been a model of drafting/developing players the last 15 years. They should take a page from their book! The Wings do a great job with scouting European talent...the Flyers not so much.
- aantny88

What really drives me crazy is drafting energy guys, grinders and fighters. You can easily sign undrafted FA or sign cheap FA for these roles. Garrett Klotz is a mistake that should never, ever happen. I would have the highest Interational scouting budget and use every pick after the rd or 4th round on High risk high reward types. Only need 1 to pan out every couple of years for it to pay off.

I think they are loaded with talent that is just being wasted. Also I was worried about G getting the C and if he could deal with it. Putting a C on some players creates too much sub conscious pressure and the on ice game suffers. I am not sure if that is G's problem but all I know is that this team is in a world of trouble.

There's validity to that approach, and guys like Klotz should never have been picked where he was picked.

Outside of Gagne, who just went along for the ride last year, which one of them won anything?

Edit. And Rusty of course.

I guess it depends on the gap. I wouldn't reach in first round, but Laughton is really redundant here and you give up value in trading forwards for defense, as we saw with JVR. So if it was a small gap I would have event with Maata.

Wasn't Laughton considered a little bit of a stretch? I though he was rated high second round?

So, what you're really saying is that you didn't enjoy Claude Boivin's career?

Recently, the Flyers seem to have begun scouting the college ranks a bit more (which makes sense, given Homer's own pedigree as a player). I applaud that move.

I agree with you, with respect to drafting Euros. When they do draft them, they seems to either not know how to develop them or have different expectations of a kid from Europe as opposed to, say, a kid from Saskatoon.

He was, but you do you're own internal scouting, too. They had Laughton high on their board, because they immediately made the pick. There was no waiting for them at all.

I'm not talking Central Scouting's board or the ISS board, I'm talking the team's board.

Agree100%. But then again we need to draft these goons to uphold our stupid thug reputation from the 70's. And that's another thing, how come flyers teams from that era are known as bullies? Those teams had a ton of skill and one of the best goalies of all time! Pisses me off. Their were plenty of really tuff teams at that time. We font win those cups without parent and the skill too.

By expanding to 32 teams and rearrange divisions if necessary.
- Scoob

how far away is the expansion to 32 teams?

they still have problems with fairness as to a playoff berth with the 16/14 split
