Are people seriously suggesting trading Giroux?
- WarriorHockey21

giroux and voracek for a top center prospect, a 3rd line winger w/ even more upside, a skilled top 6 winger who has been a disappointment so far, the #8 overall and a 2nd rnd pick

The problem with hiring Ruff is that he's not going to come in for a month and a half. He's going to want a multiple year deal. I don't want to lock myself in with any coach right now.
- Jsaquella

This seems right. I doubt Ruff is ready to hang it up and retire and probably wants to come back and coach against a Darcy Regier picked team.

Not only that......but I can't imagine the Flyers bringing in an outsider to coach the team if Lavy is canned. Lavy was kind of an outsider, but I imagine Homer knew him from USA Hockey or something like that.

By expanding to 32 teams and rearrange divisions if necessary.

Didn't see the bit about trading G. This year the free agent crop of dmen and goalies is not very good. Through the draft would be ideal, but like I said they do a poor job drafting dman and goalies and even when they do they are not patient enough to let them develop. Too trigger happy and it starts at the top with Mr. Snider!
- aantny88

I don't disagree. They drafted 4 defensemen last year and traded for another. Of those 5, 3 are having solid seasons in the NCAA(Gostisbehere, Alt and Reece Willcox) There's a start. They also added a goalie(Stolarz) who has been very solid for the London Knights of the OHL.

I don't disagree with one philosophy they have-they should continue to take the best player available in round one, regardless of position. If they have the top pick and they rate Jonathan Drouin ahead of Seth Jones, they should take Drouin.

I agree with that but a change is needed now, we need a Ted Nolan type who will make these guys accountable. Lavi yells and rants but who really listens?? The players do not. I am not a big fan of barking coaches but right now this team needs one to get the players attention. I am sick of Lavi interviews, same old shat just a different day.

The Quebec Nordiques join Division B and the Seattle Wranglers join Division A.

Why would anyone take a job for 6 weeks? Bare minimum, he's going to want at least a 3 or 4 year contract, regardless of the Flyers willingness to bring in an outside guy

I'm saying that they are too reactionary. Like when the third pair looks bad, they run out and trade 2 2d rounders for a 5th defenseman making $4mm per year.

Or when the coach buries the young project goalie with talent after a bad period in the playoffs they run out and sign a big name free agent to a 9 year deal that they're having buyers remorse on less than 2 years later.

- Jsaquella

The heck with Hexy...you got my vote for next GM!

Actually I do question some of Holmgren's moves...mainly the trades and signing of fringe players like your first example, overpaying, and inability to draft and develop D. Pretty much the same thing many others have said.

But...His trades involving true assets have generally worked out well and he has built a good young core. And like many here i think some of his most panicky moves were Snider driven. So I would give him one more year.

Lavi is another matter.

Stop with the retreads.

Wait until the end of the year to fill the position full time. Find a young exciting forward-thinking coach from Juniors and roll.

I'd go with Terry Murray. He's already on the payroll and he holds guys accountable. He's a good teacher, and he instills discipline. He's also not married to any system and is willing to coach what he has on hand.

He'd only be my interim guy, I'd look for a new name in the summer, preferable somebody like Jon Cooper, Dallas Eakins or Steve Spott

Detroit has been a model of drafting/developing players the last 15 years. They should take a page from their book! The Wings do a great job with scouting European talent...the Flyers not so much.

Yeah I think that this is all just fan imagining "what if" right now. It's be crazy for Homer to do such a thing. But he's not predicatble which is one of the reasons he makes a good GM. (Not perfect but not poop either)...
- FlyersGrace

Don't think it would be crazy at all... If someone like montreal offered like subban, prospect, and a couple #1 picks I think you'd have to at least consider It. I like g but I don't think he's the best in the league. Yeah he had a 90 point season, but do did briere. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Tavares winds up as good as g. I'd still take Crosby, malkin, stamkos,etc... Over g. Not being argumentative just being realistic. G could be great but he could also be just pretty good. G hasn't taken any games over and dominated yet? Just saying

Not disagreeing. I've said many times I'd like to see the Flyers develop players like the Red Wings do. If they did, this would be Bobrovsky's rookie season in the NHL.

Even though i do agree that hey have done a good job drafting forwards, I disagree that they should ALWAYS take best player available. I think you have to have a longer range view...which they clearly don't...and look at the needs of your pipeline as well.

This year if it is Drouin vs Jones, especially since Drouin is not a Center, I'd be ok with it but last year still makes no sense not to draft Maata or Thrower in first or 2nd round.

90% of the problems with this team would be solved overnight if Lavi just scaled back the aggressive attack a bit, so we didn't constantly have 2 or 3 forwards caught deep.
