In order to justify trading a premium for him, however, he'd have to re-sign prior to the trade. Can't see that happending. - s0rcerer1984
Yeah, I agree. Although, there is also the conditional draft pick route. Flames get an extra first round pick if the team trading for Iginla resigns him or wins the cup type thing. |

Which makes the trade worth it. Like someone else said, he is loyal to a fault.
If he decides he wants to waive for Pitt (or CHI, or Philly) he will be committing to that franchise 100%. So I see him re-signing.
That alone says how amazing he is, not only as a player, but as a person.
Not a primadonna, committed to the end. And a proven leader.
You are also trading for that, on top of the production. |

hes barely a .5 ppg player... i was saying that adding glenx with another player to garner a 1st, player and a prospect was ridiculous...
glen x is playing 1st to 2nd line minutes because theres no one else in calgary. Just me, but ive never been a fan of his and i wasnt happy with his signing either. giving him a ntc. think what you want. |

I would consider that, it could open up a possiblilty to move Jbo for more of what we need. Does Niskanen have any physicality to his game? - TandA4Flames
No, not really. He isn't afraid of contract & will fight in the corners, but he also isn't a guy who is going to clear the crease or be mistaken for Orpik anytime soon.
In short, he's a solid offensive Dman, but not a game breaker. Think of him as a younger, more balanced version of Wideman at 1/2 the cost. A #3/4 Dman, but not a #1/#2. |

He's streaky, and takes bad penalties (though not so much this yr).
I agree though, with most of what you said.

With his production the last couple of years and a 2.5M cap hit he's a steal. |

I can see that being true. I can also see him waiving his NTC purely out of loyalty to the Flames, with every intention of helping the team get a few assets via trade then resigning with them a few months later, like Doug Weight and Keith Tkachuck did for St. Louis. |

Indubitably.
I'd rather throw out 40 ideas than 0. Guess that is the Eklund in me. Too bad I didn't have the foresight to turn rubbish into a site generating ad revenue based on page hits.

2.5mil for a guy that produces on a 30G pace for the last 3 years and beats the crap out of other 3rd line comp is hardly over-rated. Find another contract, not of the ELC variety that matches that production. Goodluck, I'm not expecting a response with an answer. |

Kulemin is not a bad comp. Though he isn't as physical, he doesn't take as bad of penalties.
And he has fallen off in G for the last cpl yrs. But it was the first thought in my head. |

for a team looking for a 3rd liner, sure maybe. but his value isnt over the top. thus i stated hes being over-rated..
iggy and gio to pitts
olli maata, a cond. 1st, p.martin, and t.kennedy to calgary
cond 1st becomes a 2nd if iggy doesnt resign.
jbo to mtl for gabriel dumont, p. nokelainan, t.kaberle (salary exchange but kabs is less) and louie leblanc
cammelleri, horak and pitts 1st to nyi for the rights to nino nederreeiter and brock nelson
to nuts? |

Cogliano is on the way up
Um- this will take some thought, I will get back to you.
You may well be right. I do have issue with Glencross' disappearing act, but then, I'd have issue with every Flame this yr not named Stajan, JBo, Wideman if I used the policy for the season.
edit: yes, I am saying these are the 3 best/most consistent players for Calgary this year. |

do i really have to look it up? hes had one season at a 30 g pace...btw and its jsut a matter of opinion. he wouldnt play 1 or 2 line on the habs and that saying something... his 2.5 hit to the flames is a great deal ill give you that for a guy that hit 26 goals last year. |
