Does anyone have a link to that 2012 draft recap which updated the rankings to show today's outlook of the crop? |

I think we've finally reached the point where we can determine the root of the problem. Changes in personnel, new scouting, multiple coaches, multiple GM's, and it always seems like the Flames refuse to change directions. This speaks to the fact that someone else is probably pulling the strings. - The-O-G
havent most people being saying this for years? i know for a fact people saw this comming 4 years ago... either way, as mentioned in afew blogs befor, this team is a cash cow.. ice a mediocre team keep the stadium full.. if they win meh... the fact that theres rumbling about the uncertainty of trading iginla because of fan backlash or what it would do to the ticket sales, shows a real fragility in the organization... strange really, cause calgary is a great hockey town. maybe the way ownership has been marketing the team has created to many bandwagon fans... something calgary has been know to have to many of... |

kipper and gio and a second? for ovi and an ahler?/
cmon man... ovi is in a slump no question but the guy is a 60+ goal scorer! the guy still commans a huge return no matter who picks him up! it would take min a solid 3 players + propect and picks including a first.... ovi would be the guy you build the team around...sorry
secondly glenx is overated and backlund well hes backlund... stasny is another franchise player that you would have to pay huge for - munky123
Pay huge for Statsny? He has an albatross of a contract and doesn't do poop.....his value is poope right now. |

This is true....but the Flames have always been somewhat competitive up until this year, so it's easier to sell the "retool" route. The fact that they are last this year really forces their hand, if they refuse to change now it will be clear as day as to what is going on behind the scenes. |

hes a big center that is has 390 pts ion 452 games... almost a ppg player. he is defensively sound and plays a great playmakers game. youd have to overpay, again because hes a franchise player. |

Iggy, Sarich, Byron to BOS for : Hamilton, 1st
Jbo, Stempniak, prospect, salary retention to PHI for: B. Schenn, L. Schenn, 1st
Cammi, salary retention to ANA for: Holland, 1st
From all I've read, some think PIT wouldbe willing to give 2 of their D prospects for Iggy; BOS outbids by offering Hamilton
B Schenn rocks, L Schenn.... doesn't; PHI needs cap space and prospects
ANA is going for it and has a lot of good prospects (I know people hate this one)
CGY finishes with top 3 pick; PHI narrowly misses out and we get a 2nd lottery chance; we trade 2 of the later 1st's for another top 10.
With luck we draft 2 of Jones, McKinnon, Drouin and Barkov.
With Drouin or Barkov we move McK to RW and we have Baertschi- Barkov- McKinnon as future top line
Jones, our future back end is Hamilton- Brodie, Jones- Wotherspoon
Of course I'm aiming high on returns so don't bother pointing it out. Got to aim high. Oh and as a mid pick I'm liking Ryan Pulock. |

When did we become a franchise with meddlesome ownership?
Was it always like that, and just kept quiet or is this a new thing with Edwards succeeding Hotchkiss as the face of ownership?
Either way, it's a recipe for disaster if GM doesn't have autonomy for hockey operations, as Feaster allegedly doesn't.
Should be a telling deadline. - Fotiu666
The way I understand it, from a mid level Flames employee, is that when Harley was running the show, but his health declining there was a consensus to do whatever it took to try and win a Cup while HH was still around. Everyone was on this page.
Then when Edwards took over, there was a feeling that it was time to make some changes, but Edwards went the other way. Apparently he is a control freak and micro manages everything. I think we saw a bit of this during the lockout.
When HH was in charge, Ken King was on the radio, newspapers, TV talking all the time, "The face of the management team". If you notice, since Edwards has been the Chairman, Ken King has been pretty quiet. King was definitely Harley's guy.
If you look at the Executive and Hockey ops team, the only one who is a true Hockey guy is Craig Conroy. |

NIce read! I'm not a Flames fan but I enjoyed the blog a lot. One thing I don't see clearly is what direction you want the Flames to go? |
|
|
|
I'll give it a go:
Iggy for Spooner , Peverly, and a 1st
Cammi and Butler for Jake Gardiner and MacArthur
JBO and Stempniak for Stewart, Cole and 2nd
Gio for Desprses and a 3rd.
Kipper traded in the summer. Goalies are not worth crap at the deadline. |

well...he "was" a franchise player until a certain Duchene and OReilly came along. Hes now a 2nd line, potentially 3rd line center(down the road) on that team getting paid like a 1st line guy.
Also, despite being 6'0 205lbs...he doesnt really play like it. |

Most of those #'s were accrued during his 1st few years. His #'s have been in steady decline for years now. |

Leafs wouldnt trade Gardiner at this point...they are looking for more youth as much as the Flames...well, maybe not AS much. |

yeah I found it...i'm really pulling for him so I was glad to see him up there. People have been super unfair to him, nobody has even seen the kid play!
Here's the article:

Here's the Hockey DB of Providence this year. Good year for a rookie who's only 17!!!

Forgot to mention young John Gillies at the bottom of the Hockey DB page as well. Unreal stats! |

Yeah I don't think we touch Stastny with a 10' pole.
I still think we could get a top 3 forward out of St. Louis some how. All starting with JBo, they know he would be awesome along side of Pet. |

Again...having to do with moving down the totem pole. He could arguably regress if moved back to a 1st line role. |

Thanks. What are your thoughts Whip? I know you have strong ones some times. I would love to hear it on Colin's players and your own. I know you would rather move Gio than Jbo. What else? |
