So the thinking to adding Kessel in the trade and get totally fleeced by it is for that reason? - LeafMan
We're getting a first line C which is worth a lot more then a guy who plays 2/3 games and the rest just disappears in.
I love Phil Kessel, I got his jersey. We need someone who can lead this team and be the face like a Sundin, Gilmor or Clark, not Phaneuf nor Kessel can be that face.
Couture, JVR, Kadri, Gardiner, Rielly and Clowe can be that face |

its not so much due to their current standings though A&W, its moreso their lack of consistency and their level of play this year. That team should be dominating most games and they are letting in 4-5-6-7 goals per game and not playing well together. Call it bad goaltending, bad defensive systems, Luke Schenn, or whatever you want...but something needs to change cause they dont look like a strong contending team out there. Just my opinion. - Colin Dambrauskas
Obviously it's Luke Schenn's fault.
The team is too young.
If you are looking for leadership from Briere (too soft, to lackidaisical in the regular season), Hartnell (did you see how many selfish penalties he took last night) and a bunch of guys under 25, you are going to struggle.
It's also pretty funny to see them tar and feather Bryzgalov. I just have this weird deja vu feeling...

the point we're making here is this: If you're putting Kessel in a trade for Clowe and Couture, you don't need to give them anything else.
And arguably they need to add a 2nd or a B prospect |

PPG in a year when he's slumped for 10 games...
sucks |

you post this trade every other day. And every time we tell you it isn't nearly enough.
let it go. - Big_Lightnin
We need a guy who can be our 1C. Talk of swapping Perry for Kessel is crazy, it doesn address our biggest problem. Until we fill in that hole it wont matter who we have on the wing. |

that will require kidnapping Greg Sherman's wife and kids.
but I have plenty of zip-ties... so.... - Big_Lightnin
Detail details. I should have just posted DEAL and not added the get it done part...that was meant for the person making the trade proposal.
No way that deal ever happens - if it was possible jump on it like Leafman on Visine for that eye of his that we continue to poke. |

He's more like.... last in the league if you factor in his low percentage shots that dont count as points when they go in.

So with one trade its too much and for another its overboard?
Where's the middle you speak of? What is a fair trade for Stastny?
Kessel for Clowe and Couture is the most kool-aided thing I've heard all year. |

Absolutely he is. I always saw him at the end of the bench talking to the goalies prior to every shoot out, calming them down, pumping them up. He is a good guy, but the injury and buy out issue is real, and he sucks a little. BUT HE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THE OILERS, because they suck a lot. Islanders could use him too. - Your_Mom
Calming them down and pumping them up!
That's talent.
Ben Eager is on waivers... Leafs should pick him up cause they suck a lot!

How is it an overpayment? We get five years of leadership and morale from Clowe along with his finishing checks and goal scoring abilities. Couture is a 1B Center and Kadri can easily take 2nd line C so it figures out our Center problems for years to come. We also get rid of Kessel and all the memories that come with him. Colborne IMO will be a solid 3rd line C, maybe 2b on a lower team.
You have to overpay to get what you want and this trade fills all voids. Gunnarsson is tradeable due to the amount of defensive depth we have right now and 3 years into the future it will be even more crowded. Might as well make a trade while these guys have value. - optimus-reim
Clowe will probably go for a draft pick and you want to give up what could be our steadiest stay @ home D...Kessel 6th top scorer in the league last year and Kuleman who could be 1 of the best defensive forwards in the game ( still needs to be tasered ) and all Toronto is getting back is Clowe who they could have for a lot less and Couture...who I do like...but not an equal trade and the leafs would be getting raked and the deal will never happen. Thanks for playing!!! I'm joking..about the thanks for playing!!!! |

Enough with the (frank)in trading Kessel talk.
The guy leads our team in goals and points every year with a mediocre centreman.
If we trade him, it will be in the summer if Nonis doesn't think he is part of the plan going forward. Teams will be able to gauge their team and players better without the playoff chase and trade deadline.
And the only way that I could even see that happening would be if we win the Perry sweepstakes. The guy is only 25. |

yes Kostka is a poor man's version of Gardiner...not saying he can't play at the NHL level...but he needs to watch for a bit from higher up or back to the Marlies..or or or or or.... |
