Actually they would, they want a second line center, because koivu is likely gone next season - Mapleleafs_91
would you rather keep perry or get those two?
if anaheim was willing to spend that i am willing to bet they could build two scoring lines around perry ryan and getzlaf |

If they trade Perry it's not because of money, it's because he wants to test the market. Look at what they gave Getz...Perry will get his money. |

every player has a price.. and with anaheim he could get an extra year tacked on
but if what you say is true.. thats a hell of a gamble to take if you are the GM trading for him |

I like the player but I think if he is traded, he will be a rental, nothing more. Cost would be WAY too high for a team like TO or MTL. |

obviously keep perry, but if you know you are not going to resign him, might as well get a return for him. The ducks consistently say they need a 2nd line center, there you go you have grabo who is expendable to us, kulemin we can throw in too entice the deal, prospect like an ashton or finn or colborne, doubt nonis gives them our first rounder this year, maybe next years first... but in conclusion this would be a stupid deal because he becomes a UFA. Perry knows' what he is doing. He knows if he wants to stay, or he knows where he wants to go.
Example: Brad Richards, all that BS of him coming to Toronto meeting with different teams was all BS, Burke already knew he was NOT going to sign here, why? Because he wanted to reunite with his old coach who he won a cup with, plus the rangers had a decent team.
Perry is from ontario, he won a cup with Carlyle, the leafs are a decent team as of now under carlyle, a few more adjustments could make the leafs dangerous. Having kessel and perry on the same team is pretty hardcore offense. It may entice him. Or he goes to a team that can really contend for a cup. Or he resigns. |

agreed.. the best return will be offered from a team who feels they are one star power forward away from a serious cup run |

Does Perry have any friends on the leafs? Shultz could have helped you here tremendously. |

Seriously, of all the teams that could use him, how does a team on a serious cup run have the best assets to offer? |

i will give mapleleafs_91 credit tho
at least he is trying to consider anaheim's team needs and not just throwing out nonsense like i see around here all the time
anaheim is going to need top 6 depth if they move perry but there are more affordable ways to rebuild that second line than grabo and kuli imo |

In my opinion, there is no need to even start handing out guys like kadri or first rounders to a UFA who can easily come to Toronto fully on his own in the summer. He knows what he wants to do in the back of his head. |

first rounders, prospects ready to make the jump, the guy that perry would replace in the top 6
contenders make deals like this all the time at the deadline

Might as well give them something in return, they have some areas they need filled which is expendable to us, alot of teams wont give them REALLY REALLY good returns, because how the hell do they know he is going to resign with them? Same goes with the leafs. Teams will be afraid to overpay a substantial amount though |

exactly, but there is always one GM willing to do just that.
so the smart move would be to hang onto the youth and picks, and make a pitch at him come FA time
if perry goes to a team via sign and trade then you dont lose if you dont get him anyways. hate to pay what the price would be just to lose him
there is also the consideration that anaheim might pull a NJ this year... keeping him for their own run.. they are playing good hockey this year |

there is always one or two willing.
always.
logic goes out the window on deadline day for a lot of GMs |

Don`t see it, price for a rental is too high, what they can get around the league would be much better. Time will tell, just don`t see a contender outbidding anyone |

but a bottom feeder would likely worry that he wouldnt resign with them
who the hell knows how this will play out? its gonna be interesting to watch |
