well then TSN has it wrong I guess.

although... taking a quick look, last nights doesn't look right. 4 G on 28 shots is not .916... it's .875.

maybe a glitch cause he didn't play whole game. Rest are right though.

- Big_Lightnin

Its not a glitch, that's his season spct, and they track the changes game by game.

hey where'd the guy go who made 4 posts quoting stats and had his facts wrong in every post?
- Big_Lightnin

I didn't go anywhere?

I was looking up the stats. Gardiner only played against top competition in the offensive zone. Was going off memory but the stats say otherwise.

for most of the year he was 2nd pairing. He didn't play much with Phaneuf 5 on 5.
- Big_Lightnin

2012 Corsti numbers show Gardiner as playing against higher quality but starting more from the offensive zone. Both by just a little. http://www.hockeyanalytic...yer_Usage_Charts_2012.pdf

It's not Kostka that goes down. It's Holzer.

And as for Gardiner and Carlyle.....

Last year in the final 18 gp under Carlyle, Gardiner averaged 22-24 minutes of ice time, had 11 points and was a -4. If Carlyle didn't like him, he wouldn't have played him so much.

- mykokes

where did i say carlyle doesnt like him?

and carlyle also gives kostka that kind of ice time.. so your point is moot

he plays the body really well.. he also is good at forcing people to the outside.

rarely does he allow anyone to cut into the middle.. usually forces guys to cycle around the back of the net.

- Dozzer

He's Physical but Gardiner was also pretty physical. I may be mistaken on this....been a while since he played. How easy it is to forget that damned lockout.

Kostka is a pretty sharp dude. He plays smart and defends quite a bit differently than I've seen others, but to me in some instances lately he looks like he is just barely hanging on as the rest of the NHL starts putting pressure on the leafs. Could be a team thing..perhaps he needs a little more time to move the puck and the wingers aren't recognising that.

I like him, always have, but I think he needs another gear, or more help from the forwards.

I'll take ur word for it ..... He looks bad every night 2 me ..... Makes bad choices with the puck.... Takes to long to make a choice..... Can't hold the puck in the offensive zone (drives me crazy) ... Misses the net more then dion and I've seen him get beat pretty bad
- The_Vark

well he is a rookie remember.

age has nothing to do with NHL experience.. he is going to make mistakes

TSN is talking up a Ducks trade to the Leafs....... Not sure if i like it or not

To the Leafs........... Corey Perry

To the Ducks............ Kessel and Gardiner.

It would be a sign and trade proposal of approx. 8 years for 72 million.

- faceto27

Im ok with the trade if it isnt Gardiner. Can we instead slot Blacker in instead? Gardiner feels like an over payment

Haha yeah its been much worse, 4 goals a game is hard to take in when the leafs have to keep scoring or if the defense breaks down. Need more solid games. Scrivens in could be a changer for now

Some of that ice time comes from the PP. I imagine that's the only place Gardiner will steal minutes from Kostka. ANd the not liking him comes from HH insisting Gardiner's in the AHL because he doesn't belong on this team.

Gardiner does not position his body well. Especially in his own zone. He is easily knocked off the puck and is a puck chaser in his own end.

that makes sense...

I didn't think he'd been that good, but that was what the numbers said

Most rookie d-men are in the same boat. Most don't finish the year getting 25 minutes of ice time though.

Percy imo is a better all round defenceman than Gardiner, he has offence but is great defensively as well. I think a lot of people don't watch him play, shame, he is a good one.
- LeafMan

more upside with Gardiner imo... we know he can play in the NHL.

We have to remember Gardiner switched to D in college. He does need more development time. If he isn;t going to be playing +20min a night being in the AHL isn't hurting him, especially with the recent success of Eakins.

That being said Gardiner could help the Leafs now which is reason enough for me to call him up.
