Be warned, this is a positive post.

This team is has incredibly young parts. Growing pains are to be expected. However that is only a rung on a sizable ladder. Some tweaks need to be made, but a full roster overhaul is absurdity. They just went through a complete retooling less than two seasons ago. Some pieces could and should be moved - but a rebuild in the true meaning of a rebuild is unnecessary.

I don't think this team is THAT far off from being a contender. Honestly, their roster is good enough to be winning games; which they obviously aren't. I love Lavy, and he's done great things for the organization - but I think the writing is on the wall here.

Eks twitter says Bryz will definitely be bought out this year.

I agree 100%. My excitement and faith in the players on this team has not waned. As an example, Jake Voracek is on his way to being a star. Tons of talent on this team. Need to add a few pieces and tweak it a little. They just don't play the right way. That can be fixed. I don't feel it has anything to do with heart, desire, or work ethic. You can work as hard as you want, if you're not doing something the correct way, all you're going to do is work up a sweat and frustrate yourself. It's like a snowball rolling downhill.

I think he made at least one huge mistake.

When the Flyers agreed to terms last season with Nick Grossmann, they eliminated the possibility of re-signing Matt Carle at a "below market value" contract.

Grossmann would likely have come at a similar cap hit to what he signed for had the Flyers waited, but as soon as wideman was signed, Carle was gone

Hindsight. Holmgren put himself in position to nab weber or suter. That's all you can ask.

Either we he's put talent on the roster. Young talent. It's not being coached up IMO.

No doubt. The Flyers have a great group of forwards in G, Jake, Simmonds, Read, Schenn, Couts, Harts, and Talbot...and I'd even keep Gags around for the right price.

Defensively, we need an upgrade or 2. Kimmo is aging, Coburn is playing with no confidence, although next year he could be great. But that, in and of itself, is worrisome. L Schenn is solid and will hopefully just keep getting better and better. And Grossmann is a rock. Give me another Gmann and a passing/powerplay specialist who isn't a liability in his own end, and we're gold.

But, that's easier said than done. Flyers should coast through the rest of the season - 20 more games - get a good pick in the draft, trade Briere, Feds, etc. for picks, stock up on D and get some FAs this summer.

Edit: forgot Rino...he's been solid, though he could use some more ice time.

Totally agree. There is plenty of heart in the players on this team. They proved it in last years playoffs. There's No confidence now. Their not missing a primeau. They are missing structure

What other SFF series are a you a fan of?
- BoomGoesTheCoburn

I know you're not talking to me but Joe Abercrombies First Law Trilogy and subsequent stand alone novels are amazing.

Also, Brandon Sandersons The Way of Kings Is also great but the first book of a planned ten book series.

And listen, if I hear another person blame the play of Ilya Bryzgalov, i’m going to punt a small animal. Inconsistent play? Sure, that happens when you have the Mites-On-Ice playing in front of you for the majority of the time. Soft goals happen when your back hurts from carrying the team this far into the season. We hoped, wished, prayed, and sacrificed blood for a goalie that knew how to consistently put us in a winning situation. Without Bryzgalov, I see us no better than 29th or 30th in the league. Argue with me all you want. I welcome it at @peltzerjm.

An interesting read. Some good points...some clearly made in frustration.

Funny you should mention Abercrombie. I'm reading Last Argument of Kings right now. Ninefingers is a monster. Great stuff.

Haven't read any of Sanderson's stuff - or Jordan's for that matter. A few of my buds are obsessed with WOT, but I just haven't picked it up for some reason.

Ninefingers is fantastic and Glokta is one of the most well developed Characters I've read.

Wheel of Time is a slippery slope, I've read almost nothing but for the last year building up to the final book.
