This team lost Jagr, JvR, and Carle. Its amazing how bad they are this year now.
- stveshdy

I consider Pronger an offseason loss, even though has been gone a while. Irreplaceable

I dont post much on here - basically read the posts by you all and I am not coming on here to jump on the dogpile but what you are seeing here did not just happen this year - this began when the Flyers were swept by the Bruins after the Cup run ... it's been degrading slowly and now you are seeing the end result.

Just my 2 cents ...

- jackfrost

since it was only a penny for your thoughts you have change coming back.

agreed, btw.

They have big decisions to make in the rest of this week.

I think the organization/GM know this team isnt good enough. They will be sellers at the deadline. I expect the coach to stick around also.

I'm with you on that. The last two playoff exits say a lot, regardless of winning some games in between there.

Laviolette just sent Gervais a message through mental telepathy to close his hand on the puck

I like it when Gervais takes the penalty. That way Lavy can't put him out on the PK! #brightspot

I'll say this. I doubt Lava wanted Gervais to do what he did there, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that if Lava was more of a "defense first" kind of guy, and that's the thinking that's been pushed through his ears at practices, than maybe he doesn't go into the zone there. Again, I don't think Lava wants guys to do any stupid things... but I do think it's possible that the guys, as a group and some as individuals, just aren't getting what he really wants them to do in certain situations. It's too late to try and explain what you want the guys to do any differently at this point though.

That said, maybe with a full training camp and the ability to practice more during the season (i.e. no compressed schedule), maybe Lava can still work, and maybe that's what the Flyers will choose to try. I personally have never been a fan of this type of style and would rather the team move on from him and play something more laid back.

- eayost

There is no question that Gervais did exactly what the Coach wants him to do there. I've seen that exact pinch happen countless times on a Laviolette Coached team. All the way back to his Carolina days.

Awesome seeing the Stevens hit on a loop while the Devils continue their ownership.

This game is over, I'm looking to see who makes Carter pay the price for the knee on knee hit

5:49 from Yahoo's boxscore, but they're known to be incorrect. I can check NHL.com, I guess.

That's my biggest argument. There's other coaches getting more out of less, game in and game out. No, the Flyers don't have a great roster. But they should be a playoff team, based on their talent level.
- Jsaquella

i'm down...lockdown team = Flyer loss 90% of the time.

call the league ofc and ask them if they'll release Tippet from his contract.

Probably a 2 game suspension. I want him to answer for it tonight. If it happened to another player Rinaldo would have their back.
- PLindbergh31

agreed

who will stand up for rinaldo?
a few people chirping according to pierre, but that's it

Pinching always requires judgement.
- wolfhounds

Not in Laviolette's system it doesn't. He wants the defenseman gambling on keeping the puck in. It's supposed to be supported by a forward behind him. The defenseman basically becomes a forechecker.

It just frustrates the poop out of me that he can't adjust his system for the players he has, the situations they're in, and the way teams are capitalizing on their weaknesses. Is it a matter of pride? Is it that Lavi can't coach other ways? I don't know, but he's trying the same thing over and over, and either expects different results or likes getting whipped silly by the Devils and Rangers. Either way, it's insanity defined.

This isn't to excuse anybody else for their hand in this. But at this point, the fact that Lavi's system has worked in the past doesn't count for poop.

- BulliesPhan87

Dont know, he is set in his ways. I dont really think you would also see a guy like Babcock change his style either.

Babcock's style would also have this team exposing a lot of the areas of weakness. It pisses me off Lava cant adapt, even just for this season. However it pisses me off even more than management wanted THIS. They wanted an aggressive identity. They brought in Lava. Yet gave him a crew that cant play it.

Lava's system can work, and it has been shown to work.

It will not work with this poop show screw. They do need a change. They are taking risks they shouldnt be. They cant handle this kind of play. Far too much stupidity, lack of attention to detail, panic, and the players needed to play it well.

- flyer_nutter

It can work. With the right kind of players. He doesn't have the right kind of players.

If I had Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey, Mark Messier and Glenn Anderson, I'd be an idiot to play the same style the 1995 Devils did. It would be poor use of a group of assets.

Conversely, if I had the 1995 Devils, I wouldn't play the system that the Oilers did, because it'd get my team killed.

Laviolette's playing a system that doesn't maximize the abilities of his roster, and worse, fails to protect and hide the weaknesses of his team. If they still had Pronger and Carle, along with a healthy Timonen and Laviolette's system looks a lot better.

Rinaldo plays well most nights but he isn't under fire because of a bad team. He isn't gonna possibly be bought out because of a bad team....uhh hello??

He was shaking a dildo on the bench, if he didnt pinch on that earlier play either.

We have all seen how hard he can punch the air.
