I see people debating what Lavy is/isn't telling them, it doesn't matter! What matters is this whole team is a poop show! There are less talented teams in playoff contention. The coach has to get the team prepared to play , he hasn't done this in a while. He has to go period.

I'll say this. I doubt Lava wanted Gervais to do what he did there, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that if Lava was more of a "defense first" kind of guy, and that's the thinking that's been pushed through his ears at practices, than maybe he doesn't go into the zone there. Again, I don't think Lava wants guys to do any stupid things... but I do think it's possible that the guys, as a group and some as individuals, just aren't getting what he really wants them to do in certain situations. It's too late to try and explain what you want the guys to do any differently at this point though.

That said, maybe with a full training camp and the ability to practice more during the season (i.e. no compressed schedule), maybe Lava can still work, and maybe that's what the Flyers will choose to try. I personally have never been a fan of this type of style and would rather the team move on from him and play something more laid back.

It's not a read and react situation. He wants the defenseman to pinch. How many times does something have to happen before a realization kicks in that it's by design?

Pinching always requires judgement.

Somebody dressed him for 400+ NHL games. Steve Yzerman signed him last season.
- Jsaquella

Jsaq, if you want to defend in Gervais in any way alright.

The guy shouldnt be playing another game for this team. He is brutal. I dont care how many games he has played, he is who he is for a reason.

Yzerman signed him, and released him on a piss poor Tampa bay D-core. Gervais is far from their only problems. However every player matters.

That's my biggest argument. There's other coaches getting more out of less, game in and game out. No, the Flyers don't have a great roster. But they should be a playoff team, based on their talent level.

They have been exposed too many times. Shown they cannot play anything close to an up-tempo aggressive system.

I agree that they need a change.

Gervais just isnt very good. Everytime he is out on the ice the opponents seems to get great scoring chances.

The team play is so bad in this game. If I'm Snider and Holmgrem I can't possibly watch this again on Friday, I make the coaching change tonight...I honestly don't see another option.

I'm not defending him at all. I'm pointing out he's played in the NHL for quite awhile, and obviously wouldn't have if he was that awful.

It's not just Gervais with the bad pinches. That's what you seem to ignore. It's everyone. Is everyone on this team stupid? Did they all forget how to play? Or does Laviolette system ask them to be taking risks that they shouldn't be?

You know, I really do agree they have talent.

Yet, I think they would have been fighting for a playoff spot all season. They have talent, but at its core, its really inconsistent.

I have pretty much had enough of Hartnell and Giroux tonight.. and Talbot..Briere..Couturier..
They should see a lot of the bench for the rest of the night.

Yeah, but Yzerman signed him to shovel his driveway.

Sakic told Yzerman to do it.

Awesome seeing the Stevens hit on a loop while the Devils continue their ownership.

This game is over, I'm looking to see who makes Carter pay the price for the knee on knee hit
