Uh I'm pretty sure grossmann would be an unlikely pinch candidate tho anywhere else
- JoeRussomanno

Grossman is basically the #2 or #1 d-man most nights based on his play.

I feel more comfortable with him pinching compared to most of those guys. Just me.

Coburn has been brutal.

Look at Coburn and Hartnell the whole time they have been here. Run extremely hot, and extremely cold. A perfect little image of what this team has been for years, even pre Lava.

After replacing Lava, management has to take a real hard look at the players they throw on the ice. They have to do a better job of locating talent, that is consistent.

I agree with you, there are players out there that play the
Same way every night. Doesn't mean they'll score every night or win every night but the effort is there.

See its comments like this. If Read sees Kovalchuk coming down on his ass he should back off. No matter what design there is. As should have Meszaros to give himself a chance to come back.

If you can tell the future, or have a crystal ball alright.

However a large part of the blame here has to fall on the players themselves.

- flyer_nutter

No need to have a crystal ball or tell the future. It's not that complicated of a game.

oh, I long for the days of Terry Murray ... when men were men, and a certain hockey team knew the benefit of limiting 2 on 1's against.
- FlyerGuy

You would think a team with a horrible defense would focus on playing D first to compensate wouldn't ya?

Agreed, but right now they need to sell what they can. Get good picks, sign consistent players. All of our complaints from the last few years are being realized in front of our eyes. They talked about players not giving their all a few years back even with carter and Richards here. Well we still have the same issues and they're not even here.
Get some leadership that can build a winner the right way, through the draft.

- FlyerLifer

Selling is different than trying to make playoffs this year.

I think that the effort was there, but they played very dumb for twenty minutes and nobody did anything about it-the coach, the veteran leadership, nobody.

It's just blame the player on the ice you like least and blame him. Even if he had nothing to do with the goal being scored.
- MJL

Gervais did everything he could have on that play to prevent a goal being scored.

He has been a saviour this season.

One comment about a guy who shouldnt even be sniffing NHL ice. Let it gooooooo

Our #1 pp. is so damn good. Isn't that more motivation to tighten it up 5 on 5. Will our pp go to poop when lava leaves?

When Read had that bouncing puck coming to him on the PP, the other D man, (Mezsy?) should have been moving back to center ice. Oh well. They are going to get the coach fired.
- Marc D

You're right. But the point man where Read was. It's a pretty standard play to try and keep that puck in on the PP.

Except it sure looked like Mez cause that turnover on the first goal.
I am all for riding Couturier for having a horrible season but I want to see that again.

- opeth_pa

Meszaros absolutely turned the puck over below the goal line.

The problem with that D core, is how confident is anyone in their ability to pinch?

They are dreadful when the puck leaves the Flyer zone.

I simply wont defend them as a group. Same with the forwards. They are all playing like a sack of poop. How anyone can defend them, even if it was Forrest Gump behind the bench is beyond me.

It was a low percentage play. Grossmann has been in the League too long to try and make that play. He's doing what he's told.
