You have to deviate from hockey sometimes especially when discussing the Islanders. As far as the Oilers Tambellini is going to have to start adding to his roster soon. Katz will be axing that guy over the summer unless he starts making some moves. Get rid of the inflated contracts and fill it with some players that can help. I think they are a legit #1, Two stay at home types, and a couple bottom line grinders away from being a serious threat. I would be looking into Luongo if i were him.

Terrible defense and goaltending. With the exception of Schultz, that team is all offense.
- NYIDRIVE4FIVE

An argument could be made of him being offence too.

Could be? A good GM can take care of that in an offseason. Think about it. Grinders? You can pick up two decent grinders in the offseason without blinking, I'm not saying Lucic or marchand. I'm saying more along the lines of Boyle or a "Richrd Park type" even. Someone who can play ten minutes without coughing up the puck, plant a hit here or there, def responsible, score a goal or two. Third/Fourth line mucker or two. Piece of cake. They have some top pairing guys developing adding a 3/4 or dependable 5/6 should'nt be too tough? The only thing out of the whole equation that would be tough to acquire either through FA or trade would be a goaltender. Now granted that is no small feat but there are a couple that are out there one of which I stated. That's the one tough part of the equation. It's not that far off really. They're strong down the middle. One legit top pairing guy that's developing still, a couple decent 3/4 5/6's. They pretty much have an elite forward corp that's only going to get better. It would'nt be tough looking at it from the outside, this of course coming from a fan that does'nt watch them night in and night out.

I think he's referring to Nick Shultz

I like the oilers, but face it, if you get the 1st overall pick three years in a row you should be stacked. Swap out Bailey and Nino and add Stamkos and Taylor Hall with Tavares and we'd be looking pretty hot, no?

^^ the above is an example of how much better this rebuild would have looked if we'd tanked it hard and gotten a bit of luck. Instead we're 4th or 5th worst and still waiting on those picks to do something.

Yes, so maybe they need a motivational coach in addition to two goal tending coaches and 3 hockey coaches and not enough skating coaches.....

Play on names there, should have put a . I agree with you, they should be further ahead as far as their competitiveness. Their problem is the same as ours(well one of our problems)and it is their defense. With those two players I'd say we'd either be in the eight seed or damn close to it by seasons end. We would add to our goals for but you could prob add a couple to our goals against? Our defense and our coach IMO are our two main issues. If that were addressed this past offseason we would be a playoff team IMO. Maybe not "competing for the Stanley Cup" but a fringe playoff team. Here lies one of my problems with Snow. To see a blantantly obvious problem in Capuano who(again IMO and many others)is clearly not doing a good job or developing your prized prospects well is Snow not doing a good job or being inept.

I think our defense is not as bad as they've played, but with our coach and the lack of support from the forwards I think it's looked far worse than it should be. If we played a defensive system (or A system of any kind) I think we'd cut down on goals against. But let's face it, with the forwards failing to pick up the right man in the defensive zone, the defensemen stick checking rather than taking the body and the goaltenders allowing a softie a game, we're fvcked.

The only time we win is when the opposing team misses those opportunities we give them.

We need a real proven NHL head coach in the worst way.

anyone else hoping DP stinks up the rest of the year in BP so we never have to see him again? God help us if he goes on a winning streak.

I think it would be awesome if he turned into a world class goalie and somehow became a legit NHL goaltender again. With that said you almost hope he does'nt have a few incredible games because I have zero faith in Snow making the right decision and waiting a long time before ever letting him back into the fold.

It would be great if he did turn into a legit NHL goalie again. He's won a couple of games and if the Isles trade Nabby DP will be back. I still want the Isles to move on from DP.

The worst thing about it is we will see RDP again on this team. If they're not gonna use the amnesty buyout he'll get another chance (next season) or a call up if Nabby gets injured. This is just a vacation for us from him.
