This is actually the best post I have seen summing up JBo's value.
I don't see a 1st, I don't see a top-tier prospect.
I certainly don't see Stemp and JBo for Cole and Stewart.

They gave up a top pick for Stewart, and Stemp is avg (and undersized) while JBo would be a #3 on St. Lou.

Not to mention Stewart leads the team in points. I hope they work something out though.

Don't laugh, but this is my offer:
Berglund for JBo and a 2014 1st.

No no dont give up hope you are no where near rock bottem...!!! me and the rest of Oiler nation completely support your current way of asset management... trade all picks and prospects and sign every old useless free agent and give No trade clauses out like some sort of lost leader in the super market!

Oh, and a word of advise on Kipper and Iggy... well we think you should hold on to them a little while longer they have not totally lost the will to compete ,but your doing a good job sucking the life out of them. you should not trade Iggy!! seeing him playing on a last place team for another 20+ games after a great career is more valuable than the 1st round pick and good prospect that you might get in return.

Good luck at the draft! you will probally find a way to screw up that as well ( just like the Offer sheet to O'Reilly haha ...I tell you what I really wish we could have seen the fall out from that!!!

Go Flames!!!

I like it, and welcome more of it.
The rivalry is dead, long live the rivalry.
When you battle for worst in a league, you are not a rivalry....you are a pity party.

At least words can exact some type of emotion. Even if it is feigned aggression.

Hate this so bad...

The Patriots 16-0 is worse. However, at least they also have victory banners. Something the Nucks nor Sens have.

If the Flames did that, I may cheer for the Jackets.

LETS CELEBRATE FAILURE AT THE ULTIMATE STAGE. AND YES, WE CHECK TIRE PRESSURE AT THE DOOR.

I think the Islanders would be more inclined to bring in a young guy like Bernier who can grow with their core.
- jtommyt

I agree with the attractivness of Bernier. But LA doesnt want to trade him or wants an extreme amount for him. Otherwise he would have been a Maple Leaf or a Blue Jacket last summer.

As for it being "the island" remember it will soon be Brooklyn in the Barclays center. Arent the isles trying to buy out their lease so they can move even sooner?

These aren't necessarily "straight up trade", but the basis for them. (and some wishful thinking)

Iginla to Pittsburgh for one of Pouliot, Morrow, or Maatta (maybe Harrington) and a First. Pittsburgh has so many defencemen prospects that it will be one of them that they part with. Of the reported interested teams in Iginla, this has the best return.

Bouwmeester to St. Louis for Rattie and a First. St. Louis is so deep on the wings that Rattie becomes available. Maybe package more to get Cole as well. This also pairs Baertschi with his Junior Line-mate. Backlund between them would be nice.

Kipprusoff to Carolina for Rask and a First. Depends if Ward's injury is season ending. If it is and Carolina leading their division they will want the goalie for the playoffs. They are also deep and center and Rask becomes available.

or maybe (and my preference)

Kipprusoff to the Islanders for one of Strome, Neidereiter, or Reinhart and a first. This may be pushing it and may take more than just Kipper, but the Islanders are pushing for the playoffs right now, and they have no goalie signed for next season. Kipper next year is "Low Salary / High Cap hit" which is usually what the Islanders like to see.

Like I said, none of those are necessarily straight up trades. Just some ground work.

Do those and it leaves the Flames with 4 first round picks. With them playing as they are maybe their own pick will have them into a top 3 pick (looking like Florida will be drafting first and taking Seth Jones). Then package picks and other to get the other top 3, and draft both MacKinnon and Drouin.

A lot of hoping and dreaming but would be awesom.

You're really overvaluing Kipper. Right now he's a aging goalie who has been overworked for forever and is having an awful year. He's always let in weak goals off the rush but he hasn't been making the ridiculous saves anymore to compensate. Maybe someone would want him if he turns his season around over the next two weeks and starts playing amazing but if that happens they'd probably be back in the playoff race and they'd want to keep him.

Don't worry about the fact that they haven't come out and said "We're terrible and everyone is available". No one is ever going to say that. The team will continue to lose for the next couple weeks and they're going to trade what they can.

Have you watched any Flames games this year? He's been bad. Only Brian Elliott and Scott Clemmensen are statistically worse. You can lay some of the blame on the defense in front of him but great goalies bail their teams out and he hasn't been doing that. No team in contention is going to give up a first round pick and their best prospect for him at this point unless he turns it around and starts playing amazing for the next few weeks.

I don't completely disagree with you, which is exactly why I said it was a stretch and may have to package more with Kipper. Also why I said at the beginning that none of these trades were straight up, but the base starting point.

From a Blues perspective: Thanks, but not a chance. Blues are looking to trade picks/prospects for established players. They have enough depth to include a winger and/or a player like Russel or Cole if the defenseman is worth it. But they aren't looking to open up a major hole.

In fairness...the team has been bad, more specifically the defense to start the year(before he was injured).

Take it with a grain of salt.....things have changed A LOT in the last few months.

I actually don't mind it for a few reasons.

1- he has the inside track into the Columbus roster. Knows the players well

2- he was good for us before he left.

It's not like he's coming in as a decision maker, he's coming in as a scout and to be honest that job is a joke at times, so having a former GM helping out is okay in my books.

There isn't really any other way to write a mid season review article though. Although I think he's a bit too pessimistic - he thinks that Iggy has zero worth in a trade, for instance

not zero, but also, not a 1st.
