BLUES dont want and fans dont want jbo or stempinak! why would we want a overpaid dman that cant score and someone we already had and know what he brings. talk to DET or someone else to take that crap!
- bird diggler

Well, they are interested or kicking tires on something. They've had scouts following the Flames through SoCal.
Perhaps when you run the Blues you can determine what the team is and isn't interested in?

Stemp is not washed up. He had a very good season last year and has had a tremendous start this year, one our best players. Also, Jbo seems back to form like his FLA days and top pairing D are EXTREMELY hard to aquire. So, say what you will.

He's the same streaky player he's always been. "One of the best players on the Flames isnt saying much. In any case Stewart to Stempniak is a massive downgrade

Tell me one time this has actually happened with a top tier rental at the deadline.

I think the difference, for me atleast, is that when a team looks at Iginla you think - Ok, he has at least two years left in him lets get this guy and win the cup in the next two-three.

While he may be considered a rental, you've got to also consider that some teams may see him as a 2-3 year plan, too.

Yes he's 35...but in his last three years he's scored 32, 43, 32 goals respectively.

- Colin Dambrauskas

How is this any different from top rentals in the past? Hell, Hossa had far more years left in him but no extension happened.

Didn't they both return to their old clubs in the summer? I was referring to top rentals who have signed extensions with the team that ACQUIRES them

Yeah like I say, I might see the Blues trading a less valuable d-man and a prospect/pick for JBo but having Stewart in the deal is totally delusional.
- S Kaspar Rollins

This. Russel or Cole, D'agostini, and second tier prospect/pick is the deal the Blues would make for a LHD.

Still had to go to the summer and choose between LA and NJ, I wouldn't say this counts. Rare exception in any case

That was in the offseason and he already had a year on his contract left.

But Jbo to Cole is a massive upgrade. IMO, a greater ungrade than Stewart to Stemp is as a downgrade.

Stemp is streaky, so is Stewart. But Stemp is a good 3rd liner with good possession #'s. And St. Lou has enough wingers/forwards to cover the loss.

Exact same can be said of countless top tier pending UFA's over the past decade. It doesn't happen.

Kovy didnt sign an extension. He hit the open market, looked hard at other offers, then signed back in NJ as a UFA after there were no better offers.

more specifically, he chose NJ because they were offering 17 years and LA only went to 15, IIRC. Ironic considering what happened after

in any case, the trade for Kovalchuk had nothing to do with NJ's chances of extending him, nor does it seem to have factored in to the trade process at all, because it never does

J Bo is an upgrade on the ice over Cole. But J Bo's contract isnt as attractive as say a Yandle. Thats the big problem with a good return for J Bo. Yandle signed a reasonable conract and would bring a much better return than J Bo.

Yandle would be far more expensive in a trade though...I have not seen a single report suggesting the chances of him being dealt are actually strong

the contract thing isnt really true either, JBo is overpaid with a year left at 6.6M but Yandle has several years left at 5.25M. I'm not saying Yandle's deal is bad, just that JBo's deal isn't as bad as it's made out to be

Totally my point. You cant expect as good of a return on J Bo as Yandle based soley on their contracts.

neither is guaranteed to be traded. I would say that JBo's chances of being dealt are far greater than Yandle's. you're right but that doesn't make JBo worthless in a trade

With only one year left on JBo's deal teams would jump at the chance to land him. NYR, Philly, Pitt and maybe Ott to mention a few.

and not everyone will have the assets to trade for Yandle I don't think

My understanding of the Yandle situation is that Phoenix is looking more for a great hockey trade if they trade him, which is a big IF, correct me if I'm wrong - while Calgary would be looking more at futures
