I agree, this is not the Brenden Morrow of a few years ago. That being said, he would be an upgrade for the 3rd-line at the right price (conditional 2/3rd pick pending playoff success)?

I'd be OK with that, but I'm more concerned with the Pens improving their PK than the 3rd-line.

The Pens are 25th in the NHL w/ a PK operating at 78.2%. We've given up 22 PP goals in 27 games. That's a rate of 0.81 PPG's against per game. If the Pens can get that PPG's against average down to 0.65 PPG's against per game, itd have a huge impact given how well we are doing on the PP.

Truer words have never been spoken. I mentioned something along the same lines the other day. The Pens are one of the top teams statistically in 5 on 5 play and on the PP.

The PK is a huge component of games that they lose: In games the Pens have lost, the PK is 29/41 (71%)....in their wins, the PK is 50/60 (83%)...its not rocket science.

If they can get back to even a middle of the pack PK, they are going to be a very tough team to beat.

Glass's attempt to get in the shooting lane of Charas shot last night on the PK was....not great.

Having said that, Glass is probably the player that comes back next year as a really effective 4th line and everyone will be clamoring to resign him. This year its just not working out.

I want David Clarkson!

Dupuis-Crosby-Kunitz

Bennett-Malkino-Neal

Clarkson-Sutter-Cooke

Glass-Vitale-Kennedy

How much will he resign for I wonder next season...

That will make 3 solid lines that can score. Clarkson willl bring scoring and toughness to the 3rd line. Done.

BTW
Sutter's goals last night were a thing of beauty. Amazing perfectly placed shots.

Clarkson would be inserted in the top 6. He scored 30 goals last year and has a bunch this year. My guess he get's north of 5 mill this summer. He's big, physical, fights, and scores goals. Not many in the league do all those as well as him. Keep in mind he dropped 30 playing for the Devils who are a defense first team.

Waivers today: Ben Eager (EDM), Nick Johnson (PHX), Rostislav Olesz (CHI).

Looks who's back on waivers!

I'd take Ben Eager over Glass anyday. Let's go Shero

Clarkson would be a great addition to any team. That being said, he won't be a Penguin this year or next year. I'd wager pretty heavily that Devils are going to re-sign him prior to him hitting UFA. They have a ton of Cap space to spend & better on him than on Ponikarovosky or Zubrus.

And even if the Devils did decide to trade him for some reason, it'd be out of the Division for sure. Better to focus on Florida, Washington, Buffalo, & Tampa.

I was going to say this earlier, but I've been trying to talk myself out of it lol.

Our 4th line is too easy to play against, adding a jerk like Eager might put some edge back in it. And his offensive skill set is probably the same if not a little better than Glass (he put in 11 goals one season with Chicago).

That said, Eager is a mess, both on and off the ice. He takes bad penalties and might still be in legal trouble for his bar fight during the lockout.

He would soil himself when Roberts sits in the press box at Consol and leave the game with a lower body injury

lol at least he will fight someone... I agree with you totally. He takes awful penalties. But his offense is a bit better than Glass, and he'll definitely bring some nastiness that our lineup lacks. Worth a shot in my eyes.

And by all accounts Clarkson is VERY loyal to the Devils and Lou for giving him a chance, and Pete DeBoer who was his coach in Junior.

I can't see him trying to break the bank and going to free agency this summer.

I'd be curious to see what our local Buffalo area resident Gunner thinks about Regher. Will Buffalo attempt to sign him, or will they trade him if they continue to fall out of the race? How has he been this year? He would seem to be the perfect fit as a shutdown type guy the Pens could use on the PK....

They will probably move him. The question to you is do you want Jay McKee 2.0?

I would also argue that the classic "shut down d" role has little to do with size and hitting ability and has everything to do with foot speed and body position.

Who out there really "clears out" the crease area these days? You can't because it usually involves an infraction.

This is so true - it's what we all want and what we think of in the past, but I don't see too many guys getting away with it.

True, simply because, in days gone by that player would FIGHT HARD for his space. Today, that player falls down..The Defender is in the box for 2.

Pronger is the last guy that I can remember who would fairly consistently get away with this - maybe they "grandfathered" it in for him

Still, the Pens allow way too many rebound goals right in front of the net. Guys seems to be able to stand there & knock at a rebound while on the other end of the ice Kunitz & Sid seem to end up on their butts.

Didn't see much of the game last night, but Pens-Bruins looks a lot like it will be the ECF (assuming the Flyers don't make the playoffs and catch the Pens in the 1st round).
