Hey Mark, I doubt the Ducks will move Bobby Ryan at the trade deadline even if Murray gets Perry to sign. IF they decide to move him it will probably be at the draft and I can't imagine him going anywhere but Philly. Homer will overpay bigtime to make Bob Clarke happy. |

Ducks won't move Ryan with Perry probably being gone by the summer at the latest. I also don't see the Wings giving up assets to land Perry unless they can sign him before the trade but I don't see that happening. I do hope they go after him this offseason though. Still will be tough.
Yandle would be great because I think they could use his offense plus he's young and is signed for a longer term.
Big Buf has been such an enigma I don't want anything to do with that.
Jagr and Visnovsky are intriguing as rentals but even the price for rentals have been high the last few years and I don't see the Wings as a real contender to win it all, so the only moves I'd be making is something that helps now and in the long term. |

At this point and the way this team has been playing, I will be furious if the Wings don't hang on to their first round pick. This is a good draft year and I see no reason to chase down a rental player just to get bounced in the first round of the playoffs. Even if Filppula's value is lowered due to the factors you mentioned, I have no interest in seeing him stick around at $4.5m a season, and I'd rather get something for him now than let him walk for nothing in July. I don't think Filppula's a bad player, but I just don't think $4.5m for him with a lowered cap next season is wise. I think that money needs to be spent elsewhere. This roster needs some new blood, not the same stuff we've been seeing year in and year out. I'd rather give Tatar Filppula's spot and see how he does with a full season. If nothing else, the kid works his butt off every shift - which is nice to see when you have Franzen out there gliding all over the ice. Sometimes I wonder if someone on the bench has to give him a push every now and then so he actually moves. If the Wings are not sellers at the deadline, they need to stand pat unless they can get a non-rental player that can figure into the future of this team beyond a year or two. |

Agree Philly is the fav to land Ryan if Anaheim moves him. Also agree a move more likely to happen at the draft, but you never know what kind of offer can occur before the deadline to expedite the process. Anaheim is a Cup contender which makes Murray's decision even more difficult involving Perry/Ryan, etc.

I don't expect them to deal their first round pick this year.....unless it involves a true difference maker they can utilize for many years.

Miller is Buffalo. Without him, they don't have a team... I've heard it more than once on this site (Cloutier said Howard could back up Dubnyk????? he's on crack... seriously get him off this site!) that Miller could/should be traded but in all honesty you would never get a fair return. The guy loves it in Buffalo and trading him just seems absurd. Miller = sabre for life! |

Justin Abdelkader: guy in a huge scoring slump who's still an important part of the Red Wings' future, or guy they've lost confidence in who can be moved for the right rental piece(s)? - Morris
hes a 3rd/4th liner who is supposed to play edgy. like a david backes lite. i havent seen any of that this season. |

I agree. I don't want rentals this year and no way should they trade that 1st round pick unless an impact player is coming back that is not a Quincey. I don't think the Wings will do anything at the deadline in terms of additions as Holland is already hinting they won't do much...likely has his "prices were too high" speech already in hand and ready to go.
Wouldn't mind a guy like big Buff in Detroit for the right price. Guy is huge, physical and has great hands...plus he would improve the PP and is a right handed shot. |

Wings shouldn't want rentals this year and not to be a d**k but there's nothing on the Oilers aside from the young players they don't want to trade that i would want. |

Fair enough if you don't want rentals, and it seems from the blog you guys are in the market for a PMD but I gotta figure a guy like Smid could be helpful to a lot of teams looking for a veteran shutdown presence. If it's not a fit though it's not a fit. I won't bring up Hemsky because you guys are obviously not short on flash, |

I'd try to package up Filpula, White, and a mid round draft pick for a top six forward or a top 3 defense man. If they can't get that then I'd trade some bodies for either picks or at least a slightly better player.
I wouldn't give up a first round pick unless they're getting a younger guy like Perry or Ryan, particularly if they are still borderline on not making the playoffs. I wouldn't give up a top prospect either. If the Wings get healthy they will have too many bodies though. Hopefully they can turn that depth into something. |

Smid isn't a bad player but he isn't the PP guy the Wings need. Wings have plenty of defense that doesn't produce offense. They need a PMD like you said and a right handed one if they can since the only ones the Wings have in the system is Ian White, Ryan Sproul and Nick Jensen. Sproul and Jensen are 1 year or more away from being NHL ready if they ever make it that is. The rest are all left handed shots with a lot of stay at home types.
Last thing we need is another player (like Hemsky) that Babcock has to tell him to shoot the puck more everytime he comes back to the bench...plus with all the injuries the Wings have had, Hemsky would likely be on IR within a week after a trade anyways. Wings haven't had their full roster once this season so far and likely won't all season. |

Not sure I would trade Nyquist for anyone. Definitely not for a rental. Tatar I wouldn't have a problem with. |

they need one winger who can score and play with datsyuk, Perry can do that.
they need a top 4 D and a top 6 winger, but so does every other team. |

They need a forward who can score and go to the net. Perry would fit the bill.
They need a D with a big shot and or someone who can play physical.
Like you said though, so does everyone else. |

I've really been impressed with Tatar this year. Had kind of figured he was the next coming of Jiri Hudler, but he plays a lot tougher along the boards and has pretty decent wheels. Only tuned in about half way through the first tonight, but tough to see Abdelkader STILL on the top line, thought Nyquist would get a shot. |

poopty as it sounds that may only be for one season if Datsyuk decides to head back to mother Russia. Then again it's never a bad thing to have a top flight winger. |

I'm starting to hope the Wings are sellers at the deadline. I think they miss the playoffs this year with how they play on the road. Trade anything they can that isn't part of the future and get as many draft picks as they can for this draft. |
