why trade the combo of probably 4 picks/prospects when u can sign him at the end of the year and keep ur assets
- NYI78

I don't want to trade for him... I was just throwing out the contract to see if anybody would do it.

I hope both Strome and Reinhart are playing for the Isles next year.

I think Strome would be fantastic on JT's wing.

I would trade Nino... but I don't think he is worth much right now.

Whiney little kid...

Why do people insist on moving players out of their natural positions so much? Strome is a center. He was drafted to be the team's #2 center behind JT. He has excelled at center his entire career in Jr. Why would the Isles bring him to the NHL to move him on the wing, especially when they have a glaring hole at #2 center?

Players are not like pegs that can be placed arbitrarily in random spots on a board. You can't just move guys from wing to center or wing to the other wing and expect the same quality of play. If you're going to have Strome in the NHL at 20, at least help him by letting him play his natural position.

Well there goes my big 'move Okposo to goaltender' suggestion . Hell, he goes down to the ice faster than any of our other goalies!

Exactly if he is not called up well then we all know Nino is out the door.
- kasperrko

we won't see Nino called up until he's at a point where he can play in the top six and when there is room for him. Right now Bailey and KO certainly should be dropped to the third line, but Nino shouldn't be brought up to play 8-10 minutes a night again.

He seems very comfortable falling to the ice. He's a natural!

ummmm....so you would trade a top 5 pick who is 20 for a guy with no goals in 22 games because he hits...if that the case just but martin there and call it a day

like i originally said, if he signed a long term term id be ok with it.

also compaing matt martin to ryane clowe is nuts; dont get me wrong, i love MM but he isnt on the skill level as clowe IS. martin might get there one day, but today he isnt.

as for nino...a) top 5 pick means nothing; ask thomas hickey b) having said that im not discounting that hes a quality player with very good talent. c) this whole conversations hinges on if clowe would sign a long term deal.

since 09 matt martin has 34 career points and is -34
since 09 clowe has 3 previous seasons of at least 45 points (08-09 he had 52) and is +4

haha i was talking 2 separate deals both for clowe...sorry for the confusion

id do KO for clowe yesterday
id do nino for clowe (hesitantly) assuming he signs a long term deal.

Without referring to the body of the conversation, the difference of being a top 5 pick as opposed to a tradeable commodity does mean something if you still believe his ceiling is unchanged from when you drafted him. Nino has the tools to be a force in this league. It's a matter of honing instincts and learning the game. If the Isles feel he'll be unable to do those things, then they should do something before other teams catch on. If they feel all is well and going as perceived, I wouldn't deal him for anything less than someone comparable to his ceiling.
