No offense, its time you realize all deals for a piece that improves a cup contender will be an overpayment given the circumstances of this season
Just like last year, its a sellers market. Too many teams think they are still in it - FourFeathers773
No offense taken.
I get what your saying here. However, the overpayment you're proposing would hurt this team more than it would help, both in the short term and the long run.
It's also a proposal that gives up the team's top pick in the draft and one of its top prospects along with the one of the team's better puck moving defensemen for a top 6 right wing, something the team has enough of.
Honestly, a deal that would be closer to "fair" would be a 1st and McNeill OR Leddy for Pominville. Even then, it's a deal I wouldn't do. |

Look more closely, grasshopper. Expiring contracts, next year's cap, new contract demands. Methinks you are still operating on the premise that this is the greatest NHL roster in history also. Which it's not. - John Jaeckel
No Master Po..... I understand who YOU think the Hawks are dangling in a trade. But who you think the Hawks might/should be offering is much different from what Stan is thinking/ doing. And I don't think draft picks/prospects for Clarkson will get it done. And while we can way Leddy or Bolland in a trade for Clarkson, Stan isn't....
So live in the Hypothetical Ol' Blind Tiger. But I'm viewing this from a what WILL happen instead of a what can/should....... |

Just my NHL13 GM thoughts
1st, McNeil, Leddy for Pominville would make lines:
Pominville Toews Hossa (move Pville to LW)
Sharp Bolland Kane
Saad Shaw Bickell
Frolik Kruger Carcillo (bollig, mayers)
Keith Seabrook
Oduya Hammer
Brookbank Roszival
Montador - FourFeathers773
Still miss a good second line centre. How about Plekanec for Leddy and Bickell. |

Really? A 1st, a top prospect/ established NHL player and another top prospect for freaking Pominville? Giving up that much better yield names like Vanek and/or Miller in return.
Really hoping this is completely sarcastic. Don't you know you can fleece teams in NHL 13? |

Please next propose moving Patrick Kane for Dustin Penner and three rolls of clear tape. |

While you're at it, throw in Kane. Make him the centerpiece of the deal. The folks in Buffalo will be filled with joy!

Clearly this deal is ancillary to the deal we already made trading Miller for Kane straight up |

It's not a contract year for Penner. He will need something to injure himself with. |

If Bowman deals Leddy for Neil, he should be fired immediately. - Holes02
Agreed...a big reason for the Hawks' success has been having 3 solid d-pairings. Trading Leddy would be a huge blow to that achieved balance...not to mention...possibly forcing Savvyone to go 'postal'

In actual NHL 13 Be a GM news -
I just moved Teravainien and Bickell to the Flyers for Hartnell and a fourth at the All-Star break. Flyers were well out of it, and Hartnell had three goals and an assist playing with 19 and 88 in his first game wearing the Indianhead.
God bless the the escapist wonderland that is NHL 13... |

If we're going to look at possible trades lets focus on what the team actually needs. As good as Pominville may or may not be does he address any needs the team has - no.
Clarkson - he could be the big body the team needs in the top 6, but he won't come cheap. Pending UFA.
Hendricks - great 4th line centre, almost 60% on the draw this year and in his career he is consistently over 50%. His 45 hit are 3rd on the Caps and would be third with us as well. Cheap contract, pending UFA and good option to re-sign.
Neil - he could be great agitatotor with some skills. Given his age and type of game his contract could be a risk (3 more years). Might be good for the right price. 100 hits already this season.
Lantendresse - Don't know too much about him. 17 hits in 7 games, that would be 63 hits in 26 games. Pending UFA. Good option, but there could be better.
There's always the Zack Smith's and Jim Slater's of the league, but I don't think it's realistic to get one of them. If possible I think Clarkson (rental) and Hendricks would be amongst the best options. |

There really is no established market price for goaltenders right now - Gillis can't move Luongo; Murray would have moved Bishop earlier when Ottawa was hit by injuries if he could have helped his team upfront or on D; LA hasn't traded Bernier maybe because nobody knows what he's worth; Im sure Anaheim would move Hiller's contract now that they have Rasth. What's Ryan Miller worth the way he's playing? - RickJ
Markets are generally a reflection of what is the actual purchase. Young goalies with lower cap hits are at a premium. Young talented guys like Vharlamov, Bobovrosky and Bishop went for 1st and 2nd picks. High salaries and older goalies have proven toxic and very hard to move.
A guy like Anderson, who has been absolute lights out, and is on a great contract might draw a very substantial offer.
Lehner who is arguably the best developed young goalie to come into the league since Cary Price and is likely worth a top 5 draft pick. |

NHL13 confuses me...in my run in Be a GM mode, Toews and Kane both wanted 11 million per, and I had to sign them to that when they both went to free agency. Corey Perry gets traded during the 12-13 season at the deadline to the Rangers, and then signs an 8 year 8.7 million dollar contract with the NY ISLANDERS. WTF
Marcus Kruger randomly improves to an 86 overall in the offseason and wants 6 million a season...he had 20 points the season before. How does that make any sense at all?
The one bonus is Kyle Beach becomes a serviceable NHL player since off-ice issues are none existant |

Is Lantendresse any better or worse than Saad at this point? At worst, if he's acquired, it gives the Hawks more depth and another guy to try out on the left side of Toews & Hossa. |

Generally, I am surprised that there is not more concern among the Hawk faithful in regard to goaltending. I have to believe Bowman has this as his primary concern as he gears up for the playoffs.
The saving grace for the Hawks is that several other contenders in the West are not that strong as well. But, if a team like St. Louis gets a substantial upgrade in goal Bowman needs to be concerned. |
