Don't mistake this version of Ben Eager for the 2009-2010 Ben Eager, much different players right now.
- droe411

That's what a few more concussions in 3 years away from Chicago will do for ya.

No reason to buy him out now in my eyes. They will use the buyout in the summer when it becomes available.

Unless they need the cap space/roster spot this year for deals being worked on.

The buyouts aren't available until this summer. The two that happened this year were special circumstances. The teams told both players no thanks we don't want you to play anywhere. The NHLPA went to the league to complain, then were given permission to use next years buyouts.

I disagree. Eager is an idiot that wasn't allowed more than 8 minutes of ice time while Bollig (when not fighting) shows some hockey sense, a better shot and I think could eat just as many if not more minutes if deployed more often. Bollig can also level someone with out putting them in the hospital or getting a stupid penalty. He also isn't a complete moron in his own zone like Eager is.
- fattybeef

Not going to debate about your evaluation of Eager as an idiot etc...

By every physical hockey metric......I don't think there would be one GM picking Bollig over Eager.....Not close.

Eager has better hands, a better shot a much better and faster skater.

Bollig isn't allowed 8 mins of ice time now and Q. rolls his lines a lot more.

I have nothing against Bollig but Eager is a better hockey player.

Oh no, say it ain't so! Apparently AV really appears to be on the hot seat in Vancouver. I hope they keep the guy, even with all of the problems that team is having

How is Hayes gonna chase the puck when Bolland fails to win a draw and get up the ice when Kane is skating real fast?
- fattybeef

>Yep, agree
>But Q can always "spin the wheel" if he doesn't like what he sees
>Personally, I like Al's suggestion of getting Kruger on the ice more by having him play wing
>It also would take a little defensive responsibility off his plate
>#16 has high hockey IQ, great vision, and can keep up with Kane
>Hope Hayes does well -- he doesn't have to mash people through the boards -- BUT he does have to use his size and wingspan to his advantage to score and create scoring chances
>Also hope he much stronger on his skates

Unless a deal this season comes with an expiring contract for pure rental sake, or a value for value trade where the cap hit is offset by who is traded, my bet is that the Monty/Olesz buyouts will happen in the summer to give StanBow $10MM in cap space for next year.

That should give him the cash to resign Leddy, Kruger, Bickell and a #2 goalie. Stalberg to me is the guy on the bubble.

I know this is quite a bit down the road, but has there been anything definite about where the cap is projected to be for the 2014-15 season? I know it's all based upon a percentage of revenues, but is there an expected model?

Some significatn FA's after next season - Hammer, Bolland, Shaw.

50/50 split of HRR divided by number of teams is the formula for that year going forward to end of the most recent CBA.

NHL projected HRR of about $3.8B for next season (a 17% increase over last year's $3.3B), hence the $64.3MM cap fixed for 2013-14. If HRR hits say $4B the next year, 2014-15 will see a cap of just under $67MM.

I dont understand why some are so skeptical of Hayes. While there are some holes in his game, he did a lot of positive when he was called up. Got to the front of the net, potted a couple goals, and showed his effectiveness below the goal line. His D was not perfect but neither is Sharp's or Kane's. My point is this, he's a big body and will help free up consistent space for our hottest player right now. Hate to break this out, but Hayes was better in his first call up then Saad was.

according to EK, and has been talked about before................well let's just put it this way, "the wings would just love to stick it in the hawks arse and rub dog crap all over their faces by trading for either buff or brian campbell. just curious what the wings THINK they are going to give either the jets or panthers for either of these guys.

Do you think they can make one of those two trades without parting with Brunner?

thats what i'm thinkin, the wings don't, at least i don't think they have Richard to give either of these teams unless it's a kid who won't be ready for years.

With all the s h i t happening at sporting events over the years, I NEVER WEAR MY COLORS in the opponents rink. Why chance any b.s. .
- philco28

I have been lucky enough to attend two blackhawks games in the past couple years. I went to a game in Ottawa during the magical 2009-2010 season when the Blackhawks lost 4-1 and the crowd was booing Huet. It was my first live Blackhawks game and I remember it hurt watching them lose but they were in the middle of an 8 game road trip. I was seated right behind the Hawks net for 2/3 periods and the Ottawa fans gave it to Huet all night mercilessly. I wore my Kane sweater loud and proud and although I did get some chirping from the locals it was pretty mild mannered.

Next year I got to see a game in Toronto, and I was wearing my Kane jersey again and I was surrounded by Leafs fans. The Leafs fans were all very respectful and we chirped eachother throughout the game and they were all great sports about it

To me part of the fun of going to a live hockey game is being able to get loud and emotional and chirp your fellow hockey fans. But it's all for good fun, and if anybody gets disrespectful or takes things too seriously the fun goes away pretty quick. I haven't been to many other NHL games so I cant really speak about the fans at other rinks but I never once felt uncomfortable in Ottawa or Toronto, I think the Leafs fans were used to having other teams fans come in and make fun of them anyways.

Add to that seven UFAs - one of which is their starting goalie - and four RFAs, with $18MM in cap next year.

There are things to like about Hayes, like getting to open ice to score but....The part of being a big body....

Well if that were true he should have made the club out of camp.

I expect Hayes to throw some big hits initially and try to do what you suggest. He didn't maintain the pace last year and I don't know how many who watch him on a regular basis would brand him as being a physical player who uses his size.

Maybe this time will be different, but until Hayes shows me that he can play to his size over a considerable strectch in the NHL I will remain skeptical.

Agreed. Benny is a much better hockey player when he applies himself but Bollig probably makes better decisions in his personal life off the ice.

Mr. Eager and his brother got into trouble in a bar in Toronto during the loackout for beating up a bouncer. I believe there is criminal assault charges to be dealt with.

But then again, that kind of stuff never bothered Donald Brashear.

Good on you and all who do....if you're a Dolphins fan going to a Bills game...be prepared to scrap...i've been to a few of those as a neutral and it gets pretty nasty. I understand the Cubs and Cards fans also have a pretty good hate on for the other side.

Guess my view is...if i'm spending $100 and up for a ticket...i just want to concentrate and watch the game in peace.

The reason to do it now would be there isn't room....Don't know if that is the case but The Third Man In.com.....Had Joakim Nordstrom coming to town within the next week.

He would be coming to play and that is another roster spot.

I hear ya there, it shouldn't be a concern for people going to a hockey game to have to worry about being harrassed because they want to wear their teams jersey. It'd be nice to think that for the most part hockey fans are more respectful than that but its always a few bad people ruining the good things for everyone. I wonder if anyone can comment on what its like to attend a Canucks/Blackhawks game wearing the visiting teams jersey ?

I think it's a matter of what market you're in too.

Speaking only on reputation, I think east-coast markets (looking squarely at you, Philadelphia) tend to have a larger than normal meatball-to-citizen ratio at sporting events, and thus, a greater probability of unpleasant encounters with the locals.

Doesn't bother so much as its just predictable.

Oh, and I think Ben Smith would help the team more and has earned it. But Hayes is one of Bowman's shiny pennies. So it is what it is.

I am starting to come around to this aslong as he is playing with a better FO guy. Otherwise, there's no point in moving him.
