SI is like ESPN, not much to read or see if you are a hockey fan!!!

I do have a framed copy of one particular issue in my man cave. It had something to do with some hockey event in Feb, 1980.

If Leddy's agent is asking for the moon, he goes before the deadline!!! And coupled with Stals, something really good should be coming back this way....
- moots

The only leverage Leddy has is an offer sheet...Which if this lingers becomes a distinct possibility.

Otherwise you have a young dman that is most likely going to get better and his upside is high...

So Hawks will have to pay up becaue unless Leddy is resigned first and then traded the potential suitor has the same offer sheet issue to deal with...

Which means his trade value won't be as high.

Unless it is a whopper of a deal, Leddy shouldn't be dealt.

I would guess he'll get a shot on the 2nd line, he may not stick there but he'll get a chance. This would allow Q to leave the remaining lines intact:

I think there is a very pragmatic concern. Teams need to manage next year around a compressed cap. It means that teams close to the cap need to get their ducks in order. A huge wild card can be the RFA who holds out and encourages offer sheets. A team near the cap is incredibly vulnerable to an O'Reilly type offer.

A GM has a good idea of what needs to get done. By all reports Bowman does not trust or like Sheehy. They have probably had preliminary talks. So, the talk about dealing may be smoke to force Leddy and Sheehy to make a commitment. But, Bowman also knows he will not trust Sheehy beyond the trade deadline unless assurances are undertaken.

- spatso

Good points. Some forget next years cap will be like last years cap, $64.3M, or $5.9M less than this years [prorated] cap. Or simply put, Sharp's cap hit...wait for it .... waaaaaaaaait forrrrrrrr iiiiiiiiitttt .... Ogi ?!

If Leddy gets offer sheeted after the seaon, and the Hawks don't match, what is the compensation for the Hawks?
- Lido_Shuffle

Compensation is based on the contract size.

How's his noggin? Thought he too had concussion issues, and they were recurring.

Hayes, Smith, Pirri and Morin all deserve a shot so you couldn't go wrong recalling any other them.

Hayes has the most NHL experiences (albeit not much) and he's been the hottest lately so he makes sense. Hopefully he can stick in the show.

I want to follow up with remarks/review of my post by JJ and EKolb.

EKOLB - My idea is/was to see a bigger sample size regarding Lalonde. However, I trust your judegment; surely you have seen him more than myself. Lalonde has gone on good two week stretch as in last year, but your pointing to his weakness in his own end in dealing with responsibility (forechecking pressure) is the same as when he was selected. You'd love to have an offensive dman with a mean streak in your third pair. Oh well, now I turn to Birch as the next surprise. Wait and see. I'm with you on seeing what the ceiling is for Dahlbeck, Lavin. Stanton may actually be a descent third pair. But the Rockford guys -- including Olsen after another year, are at best third pair or evn 7th dmen. Agreed on that EKOLB.

- jhawk59

First and foremost...

GOOD LORD MAN!!! Is it that necessary to BOLD your entire post?

Now that I've got that off my chest, I guess I'll try to attempt to respond to the part of this post that I believe was directed at me.

Sure, Lalonde has had a good two week stretch. Ok? It still hasn't chaged what he's done over the last two seasons in Rockford. There isn't much of a change with his play, and he's pretty far down on the depth charts at this point. Sure, he's got a heavy shot, is mobile and adds some physical play, which are all good abilities. Problem is his game in his own zone. I don't think he ever sees the NHL.

As for Lavin and Stanton, I never said they would make a decent 3rd paring, nor do I agree with that thought. What I did say last night is that either are nothing more than 3rd paring guys, but on their best days only. Realistically, Stanton or Lavin could very well be the 7th defenseman in Chicago next season, provided that they are re-upped this summer. Honestly, either guy would probably make a good 7th defenseman, and that's the best I would expect out of either one of them.

Do you attend a good number of AHL games? Just wondering?

Let's hope Q doesn't try to use him at center. That's been a horrible thing to watch in Rockford.

Ottawa just acquired tough guy Kassian from Minnesota, maybe Neil is available. And, Neil did not dress at practice today.

I agree. Haven't even picked a copy up at a news stand in decades. Heck, I haven't watched a second of ESPN in years either, they lost me a long time ago. Unless ESPN is the only place to watch a Sox game in July, I never flip over.
- ArlingtonRob

Amen brother (sorry, is that too religious?)--but hockey is the religion of most folks in here anyway, right?

In any case, don't watch ESPN either--and SI is pretty much the flip side of ESPN.

While he doesn't seem to like the Blackhawks, he is right for the most part I think.

Of course, it's all lost on those at CSN:

Thought it was his knee also. Led to a fight with "Lone Wolf" McQuad.
Haven't heard how serious injury is though.

Hawks draft pick Joe Gleason at UND pleads guilty with other draft picks and players to supplying minors with alcohol.

I don't follow college hockey, but that could be a potentially big blow to the UND team if all get varying degrees of suspensions, etc.

>I like Morin's upside much more but he isn't a 4th liner
>Maybe Hayes shows he can score from the "dirty areas"
>Can he screen a goalie?
