his present value. 3rd or 4th round pick, make it conditional to 3rd if senators make playoffs or resigns. - deks1
i'd be happy with that.....conditional 3rd (if ottawa makes playoffs), 4th if not. |

what do you guys think the oilers would want for whitney?
sens could use someone to move the puck from the backend......and if it's not a long term permanent addition (like bouwmeester), might aswell be a really cheap rental. - sensarmy_11
I'd prefer someone that can play in OKC next year with NHL potential, but I'd take a pick as well. |

jim o'brien? - deks1
wouldn't do that. o'brien is finally starting to show that he's an nhl player. never gonna live up to his 1st rd pick status, but he'll be a very good bottom six guy, good in the dot, defensively reliable. chris kelly type player.
wouldn't trade him for a rental |

Sure, but maybe of the d-man variety.
I look at more than just the Oilers, I look at depth in OKC. Want someone that next year can go down to OKC without waivers, someone that can come in as VV/Lander did and play some games. Someone who could have a future here.
I personally think we have enough picks already and would like that warm body. |

We'll see. Since being "re-activated" he's got 3g 1a in 5 games averaging 17:56 in ice time. He's a -1 in that span while the team has a goal differential of -12.
At this pace he could price himself into 2nd rounder range. Then we can flip two of our 2nds for a late 1st. |

there is nobody on the sens nhl roster right now that i think murray would give up for whitney......espcially given the fact that he almost surely wouldn't re-sign him.
maybe if he was guaranteed to come in and help the offense, and play in the top 4, then i could see it, even as a rental. but right now, even with the depleted blueline, i still think he's hit or miss to help the team.
edit: you could have daugavins for him........he's a twitter trend, so the global recognition he'd get you would be worth it |

Totally unrelated and I agree o'brien is a good role player, but does anyone else remember the guy at the beginning of the year who said Jim O'brien would be better than Yak and Nuge? |

if he continues at that pace, why would the oilers bother trading him? if he returns to form, which he'd have to do to warrant getting a 2nd rd pick, then he's EASILY one of your best d-men. |

It doesn't need to be NHL roster. Could be someone in the AHL that could get a cup of tea next year.
One problem we have in OKC is a lack of solid d-men. teubert and plante could be gone, both Clark and Randy Jones are solid vets, but they could either get back into the NHL or retire. We will have a lot of youth next year on the back end with Klefbom, Marincin, Davidson, Musil, Gernat etc.. Need to help offset it. |

erik6karlsson5.......he hasn't gotten any better.
i cant' remember his exact offer for bouwmeester in yost's blog yesterday, but it was something like......"o'brien, daugavins, prince".....although, o'brien is as good as yakupov, so that might be an overpayment |

A guy who's good at shootouts? We've been fooled on those types before, but by golly that sounds promising! |

fyi, that Washington deal, the neuvirth and alzner for gagner and second asset, that second assest would have to be your first this year or one of your untouchables. Alzner is considered untouchable by the caps, and neuvirth, while having a rough season so far, is still a top goaltending prospect. |

What about Clowe ... Dreger says Sharks are fielding offers and I think he is a better fit in our top 6 than Hemsky. |

The sad thing is in their roles O'Brien and Daugavins are great players. And I remember thinking that Prince was really good value to go around 60th considering he had been in the top 30 earlier that year. |

i can't see ottawa trading a young D prospect for whitney, who let's be honest, would be nothing but a temporary bandaid while karlsson and cowen are out.
i think murray would move a mid-round pick for him, but if the oilers wanted more than that, i think he'd target someone a little more permanent, like bouwmeester |

What???
One of your fellow Sens fans guaranteed he is the next Alfie and was going to be better than all of the Oilers young guys....

oh, i think they're great at their roles too. that being said, a package of two 4th liners and a "good" prospect (not great, but good) isn't gonna get you a sure fire top 4 dman (top pairing on a lot of teams) |

not happening from flyers point of view. - deks1
Really?
Highest payroll in the league.
No cap space
15th or 16th in the league in scoring.
Currently out of the playoffs.
I would hate to be a Philly coach or Gm and miss the playoffs.

True. The fact that he wasn't at top form is a HUGE reason we're not doing better right now.
I don't know what the fit is like in the go-ahead for Whitney, but it would be tough to trade away a guy just as he's returning to form. Then again, if we didn't, we might get stuck overpaying him. Indeed if he gets even halfway back to scratch maybe we could trade him instead as a rental for a prospect or young dman that hasn't shown as much yet. |

considering he's a hit or miss, just daugavins for whitney, conditional pick based on if he hits it up for ottawa to the playoffs. |
