With the truth, something you seem to avoid.
The fact is the players like Horcoff, he's vocal in the locker room and a good teammate.
This came from someone that actually has been in the locker room and around the team. - Lahey
We certainly get great results with him as our captain
Come on guys... We get one win against a team that we usually play well against and suddenly Horcoff is a god? Am I in the Twilight Zone? 90% of the time, the Oilers look like they're playing uninspired hockey. One game does not erase that. |

It's not even the captaincy. We don't have too many guys that are willing to play 100% every night, that are good in their own end and are willing to change their role for the better of the team.
It will be tough to fit Horcoff in here during the 14-15 season, but at 3mil in real dollars I'm sure the Isles could use him and his 5.5mil cap hit to get to the floor. - Lahey
Im buying a Horcoff jersry, (frank) you laughs. |

Agreed the third period was too much collapse and they barely squeaked it out - that game on most other nights is a late tying goal and we squeak out a point.
BUT! Sometimes you have to hand it to the best team in the NHL right now. It's as much a case of the Blackcocks imposing there will - not an easy thing to defend. - Salvo

I've never had an issue with Horc, his contract yes but he's a good player. |

Belanger had some careless gaffs in those few losses before last night.
Seriously, plays where it looked like he had given up and didn't care or was unfocused at the very least.
He of all people cannot be doing that. Guess I don't have to worry about that for a bit and most likely go back to wishing we had his D-zone faceoffs in a week. |

I know this is going to tick people off but not only do I agree with Clout (that is not the part) but I firmly believe that Nail has a better defensive game than Belanger. The guy back checks like few others on the team. If you want to sit on a lead, why bench him. Ganger and Nail are probably two of our best players for back checking that also have the ability to score.
You want to keep the puck deep, who better than Hartkinen. Give him a line and they will cycle down in their end. His use, or better yet, misuse of the talents our rookies have is costing us games and hurting their development. Nail plays great, how do you think it feels to sit on the bench after that. You think ROR was hard to resign. Keep this up and I wouldn't blame Nail if he asked for a trade. The guy has the ability to sell seats, score goals and bring a crowd into a game in a way that browns fighting attempts to do.
I know you say a revolt from fans won't work but what will? Our voice needs to be heard and Clout you are a guy that deals in this. How do we finally get low out of here? Obviously sucking isn't doing it. Could we organize a fan wide boycott of Rexall products? That would get the greedy Katz thinking if his quarterly earning changed. I know people in power but I don't think this will work with them. I think this has to come from the people. It is tougher to lose a million from one person than it is to lose a dollar from a million. |

It was an act of desperation by Kevin Lowe. Everyone knows this story. UFA's wouldn't sign in Edmonton, so Lowe attempted to make an example of Horcoff by giving him a monstrous contract to show the rest of the league that the Oilers were willing to spend big bucks. The plan backfired horrendously. Not only did UFA's continue to avoid Edmonton, but Horcoff quit doing the things that got him the big contract in the first place.
And then, there was the attitude issue situation involving Horcoff, Souray, Smith, and Moreau...Oilers got rid of Souray, Smith and Moreau, but couldn't dump Horcoff due to his contract. Much of the fan base has selective amnesia about the attitude issues in the dressing room and Horcoff's involvement in the situation. - Maxbone

I am happy with Horcoff as our #3 center. He is good on the dot, great Pk'r and should be good for 35+ points a year. I do agree that his contract is overpriced for a 3rd line center. But my question is why do you really care about Horcoff's contract? You don't actually pay it and we have around $8 million in cap space(from NHLnumbers) so his contract isn't stopping us from signing someone. So until we get someone that is as good or better for a lot less whats the problem?

Nail is probably our worse defensive forward. Back checking is only part of it. |

what is the record with Horcoff vs without this season? It seems like they have a winning record with him. I'm not saying he's the reason, it could be a weird coincidence. Anyone know the numbers? |

Bob Stauffer @Bob_Stauffer
Oilers improve to 5-2-1 and 15/40 on PP with Shawn Horcoff in line-up with just 4 wins in 17 GP when he is out
Without Horc PP was 10/60 or 16.67%. 37.5% with him |

More importantly Lowe made this up. Lowe is the reason that UFA's think that no one will sign in Edmonton. They weren't having any trouble till lowe became GM and did things like ship Ryan Smyth for iffy prospects. Plus other stupid moves that made players not want to sign this. Then he made a press release saying people didn't want to live here and sited all the reasons the city sucked.
Then he made a movie of sorts and started mailing it to UFA's trying to convince them the city doesn't completely suck. Which comes off as the city sucking. Then he made public his attempts to beg Heatley to come to Edmonton by flying to his house and Nylander when he signed with us. Also he sited Pronger wanting to leave for warmer climates when he should have hung Pronger out to dry.
Its a self full filling proficy. If you tell people that no one wants to sign here... no one will. Then to make that such a public thing it makes the city sound like a dive. Calgary is 3 hours south and they have no troubles. Lowe created the problem, marketed it and then hid behind it. |

Even more skewed than I thought. So is it a coincidence or not? Good record when the captain plays, disgustingly bad when he's out. |
