Subban, Desharnais deals, at very reasonable AAVs, along have Habs Bergevin top of list for Exec of Year.

Average of 3.5/yr. Stajan has 2 less points and gets ripped for making the same...

I don't understand this signing though. What is Desharnais going forward. Look at your depth chart for the 2013 season now.

LW - Pacioretty,Prust,Bourque,Moen

C - Plekanec,Desharnais,Eller,Galchenyuk,White

RW - Gionta,Gallagher...Leblanc?

15 mill in capspace with a Kaberle buyout. So you'll have some room to go after a couple wingers in free agency but you also have to keep some cash put away when Subban,Eller,Galchenyuk and Gallagher become RFA's

Is Desharnais your 2nd line of the future now? What does that make Eller? How long is Galchenyuk going to play left wing?

I've just never understood where Desharnais fits going forward, now you have him for 4 more years? Is it cause he's french?

Desharnais earned that contract, I am a bit unsure as to the length, but 3.5$ is pretty easy to move. I believe Bergevin is working on something at the moment with the trade deadline approaching. I just hope he doesn't try to go ahead of his plan because of his team having unexpected success this season.

EDIT: With Gomez's and Cole's cap hits gone (7.8M$ and 4.5M$ respectively), and Kaberle being bought out this summer (amnesty buyout, 4,25M$ cap hit), Bergevin is positioning himself pretty well for the next few seasons.

he's an RFA. what are the club's options? sign him for a year and then lose him for nothing? don't qualify him and lose him for nothing? it's smart asset management. that deal is very moveable if it needs to be moved.

Bergevin probably sees Desharnais as a player who's best is yet to come. He probably could have gotten him to sign for less money and years, but didn't want to risk having to negotiate an even bigger deal should the shorter contract have expired and the Habs wanted to keep him. 3.5 isn't a horrendously large salary either, if they wanted to trade down the line it would be feasible.

if he's going to put up 55-60 points/year, that's a decent contract.

I didn't mean the french part to be disrespectful it was an honest question. He seems like the lone french golden boy of the team.

I understand that but the term seems a little risky. Bergevin has pretty much stated that he's the 2nd line centre of the future of this team.

I think Eller has huge potential, you guys don't seem to want to give him a chance. Now, he's once again haulted to become a 3rd line checker for you guys. Then I get Galchenyuk beginning his career as an 18 year old as a winger but he's a gem, he'll your 1st line franchise centre. Can't see you guys moving Plekanec.

Just confusing that's all. Other GM's haven't been into acquiring 'term contracts' lately so he'll be around for at least another 2 or 3 years.
