When Bergevin gets the cup they should put an asterisk beside it. This is Gauthier's team.

Also, the gamble was that Price's ceiling was higher than Halak's, and that Halak had reached his plateau.
- 3M

the gamble was Eller - the guy had played 6 games in the nhl

Gallagher was part of the habs last year, and Ryder just arrived ... The other names, except maybe Galchenyuk, are all bottom lines guys and as much as I agree that they are almost as important as the top line guys, the top line guys are the same as last year
- Traceur

Gallagher was NOT part of the Habs last year. And if Gauthier was still in charge, I would bet Gallagher isn't on the team this year. Actually, he IS on one of the top two lines. Prust is a bottom guy? You don't see the impact he has had? Ryder just arrived.....because MB went and got him.

17 pts in 20 gp for Cam
10pts in 17 gp for Rene

- Oilhab

That trade has been a win/win, but the trade with the leafs, the constant belief that Jokinen is a saviour, relying on Tanguay (winger) as top center and their handling of Iggy is more reason why.

Why does Bourque not "SUCK" in this case?

But he doesn't explain the success of the habs in the first 20 games or so now does he?

as for Gallagher, he was in the organization last year, I love MB as much as the next guy, but he can't be given the credit for Gallagher's progression. As for the bet you would make about what would have happened with Gauther, that doesn't hold much value in an argument...

Prust is amazing, and yes that is one guy that makes a huge difference, hence the almost adjective I included in my original statement

I'm not saying Gauthier made the wrong choice. Price will be the best goalie in the long run, but saying right now that it was an easy decision 3 years ago is a little hypocrite IMO.

If Gauthier was still there, Gomez would center a 3rd line composed of Moen and Eller.

Why is the Halak thing even brought up when discussing the Goat?

It was Gainey's decision.

I didn't realize we were confining this to the first 20 games only. If that's the case, then I will have to retract my Ryder point.
As for Gallagher, I realize he has been in the organization since he was drafted. I'm not praising MB for making him what he is today. The point is, if Gauthier was around, Gallagher, and more than likely Galchenyuk, would not be on this team. You can hold whatever value you want in that point, but Gauthier's style was very evident, and wouldn't lend itself to taking such chances.
