I trade him. I open the market early, and I create the biggest bidding war possible. My job as the GM is to look after the best interests of my ownership group, not just for this season, but also going forward.
A cup run is great, but you're not guaranteeing playoff success by keeping him. If you fail to realize playoff success, and you lose an asset for nothing, you hurt the value and the viability of your club. That's how GM's get fired. - jtommyt
The Ducks are likely going to lose Selanne and Koivu next year as well. The team is doomed if they lose 3 of their top 6. Perry can bring some good assets. |

Souray has a no trade/no move - Iggysbff
Yes, but he would certainly waive to play in Calgary. Common now. |

If I'm Feaster, I don't touch this with a ten-foot pole.
There's too much uncertainty surrounding Perry. Why would he re-sign in Calgary? What do we have to offer that Anaheim doesn't? Are we going to pay him 9.5 a year? Is that even enough to forgo the opportunity to play in Toronto, or Montreal, or Boston, or Philly? Especially when most of those teams will probably offer him very similar money on July 1? - jtommyt
I think analysts need to give the GMs more credit when it comes to discussions like these. If, and I say if, a deal were frameworked like the above mentioned, it would be because Feaster was provided with the opportunity to discuss an extension with Perry. Or else youre right, you dont give up too much. |

You're absolutely right... The GM that does deal for him will know whether there's a chance they can sign him long-term... I just don't think Calgary's on that list. |

Neither do I.
Calgary wont be going after any big fish...theyll be looking at guys who have yet to really break out or establish themselves as they are a few years from competing, afterall. |

Agreed. They'll target guys who have been drafted in the past 3-4 years that seem to have the tools to grow with the team moving forward. |

O'Reilly?
Imagine they would have got him and then lost 3 in a row like they have....boy would Feaster be getting shredded. |

Or, like Iginla, you are thinking he is a pure rental player. Which brings me back to why trade Perry if you have a shot at the cup. It would cetainly benefit A GM if they could let other GMs talk to the player to judge whether thsy can resign or not. Obviously the return would be greater if you are certain you can resign that player, otherwise, you're likely getting a pick and prospect with maybe a conditional pick if the player signs. |
