I love Seguin. Wish he was an Oiler. And I love Landy. Wish he was an Oiler too. But I still beleive Oilers took best player available. Doesnt mean the others are poop. They are great too. But the guys that try to knock the #1's off their pedestal so to speak are just being petty and have blinders on.

Just because someone is taken first overall doesn't mean they are the best either. And it's got nothing to do with being petty or having blinders on, just opinion.

I wasn't trying to knock the Oilers precious #1 picks; they are all very good players. I just think, given the position they were in personel wise, I would have taken Seguin.

Back before the draft, Oiler fans were about 50/50 on who to take. I was on the Seguin side due to him being a Center mostly. Some of the things the scouts were saying though are apparent to me now though. Hall is a Leader and takes over games.

Realistically here's what is probably going to happen at the deadline:

Sarich traded for a 6th round pick.

The end.

If I were running the team, I would at LEAST trade Iggy as well. I'd say it's 50/50 he's actually going to be traded this season, looking more and more like he will though. Although even if they do trade him, they'll still try and compete and "re-tool".

To actually classify a "re-build", the would have to deal Iggy, a depth player (i.e. Sarich) and one more significant player (i.e. Gio, GlenX, Cammy, Tanguay).

Blow it up = Iggy & Kipper

In any case we're still doomed.

What you should be hoping for is Heatley to go to NJ, as was rumored. This then opens up Gaborik back home to Minny, which then opens up Iggy to the Rags.

Gio gets us 1st (And for those who think that Gio won't get us a first, Gaustad says high.)
Kipper gets us a 1st & a 2nd.
Iginla gets us a 1st and a very good prospect.
Also any of Sarich, Smith, Babchuk for 4th or 5th rounders.

Then hopefully you can pakage some of the 1st rounders and hopefully we will have 2 picks in the top 5. If Calgary trades all these guys they will for sure have at least one pick in the top 5.

Agreed, they overpayed for gaustad. But still Gio gets you a first especially with a solid contract value. Perfect player for Pitt

I just don't know how much more you get in that case, because he's a young player that has shown he can play. I do suspect there would be more, just not sure you get the 1st or good prospect too.
