JMO but I think that would be a mistake. He's 19 and still very small. He shoud finish college and get bigger and stronger in that time. We don't need to start rushing what few prospects we have only to have them fail and lose all confidence because they aren't ready. Look at Sven, I haven't read the article but it sounds like he is really down on himself in a Calgary Herald article today. - TandA4Flames
For Johnny Gaudreau this probably isnt going to happen. But look at guys like Gerbe, Ennis, Conacher etc.
I know you dont want to rush guys but you dont want to hold them back either. He has dominated NCAA (also much different that the WHL, bigger, stronger, tougher, older competition) for the past 2 years, won gold at the WJ etc. At least put him in Abb. |

That's because he is supported by solid vets; he had the benefit of going to a strong team. Unfortunate for Hall he went to the basement dwellers. Not to sound trollish. - TandA4Flames
Exactly my point...
Other guys get to go to teams where they are supporting peices. Edmonton's picks were instantly the best on the team. The others get to play sheltered minutes against weaker opposition.
Hall/Nuge/Ebs see every teams top shutdown lines night in night out. Anyone that trys to talk them down and say Oilers made the wrong choices are clearly trolling and dont actually watch or know what they are talking about. |

Ya...you like some other trolls like to try to knock whoever is number one.
Hall is better than Seguin. Better player, more heart drives games everytime he is on the ice. Seguin...not even top guy on his team.
Nuge over Landy. Nuge is a number one C. Something every team is begging for. Including the Flames. I like Landy. But over their careers, Nuge is better and more valuable. - Iggysbff
cmon bro... how much boston hockey have you watched to make a statement like that?
hall is number one on the oilers because whos better? julien is using seguin smart, and at this time, there arent to many more complete teams than the boston bruins. out of 10 games vs the oil the bruins would crush the oilers 9 times out of 10 and you would be wishing you had seguin... no knck on hall.. the guy is great, but at this time the bruins have developped seguin way better.
the way the oil are developing theri youth is laughable, really... |

If you don't think Seguin faces top shut-down lines night in night out then YOU clearly don't actually watch or know what YOU are talking about.
Not to mention he's +16....... |

Please Calgary don't do what the leafs did & try & win when it's just not your time.
This re-build doesn't have to be that painfull. Just look at Ottawa they are in year 3 of there rebuild & should go deep in the playoffs next year.
The last thing you want to do is finish 9-10 in the standings for the next 3 years.

My opinion on Hall/Seguin isn't so much about the player but more the position. At the draft it was so close as to who was #1. Wouldn't it have been wiser to go with the center, especially since at the time I believe you guys had a # of wingers. Like I said earlier, Seguin/RNH would be a pretty darn good #1-#2. And now you would have had Yaks, Ebs, Hemmer...
You could have kept Horcs and moved Gagne for a pretty good winger to complement your young centers. But, hindsight is 20/20. |

Seguin hasnt played Center in Boston. He's a winger. |

The Flames are in "last place" but have 2 or 3 games in hand on most teams...they are only behind CBJ if they lose 3 in a row |

they also get top minutes in meaningless games with no attention paid to defence. that has inflated their numbers the last few years...it goes both ways |

True but he was a center at the time he was drafted. BOS moved him to wing as a necessity. Wasn't that why they were hoping EDm would take Seguin; because they needed wingers? |

I love Seguin. Wish he was an Oiler. And I love Landy. Wish he was an Oiler too. But I still beleive Oilers took best player available. Doesnt mean the others are poop. They are great too. But the guys that try to knock the #1's off their pedestal so to speak are just being petty and have blinders on. |

i dont think anyone is trying to knock them off their pdestal. sometimes teams take the wrong player. but youve raised some good points as well as to why the oil took who they did. tand mentioned also hinsight is 20/20..
i thikn at the end of the day gally will prove to be the better guy than yak as well
i think the oil made a few mistakes taking the "#1" vs taking what the team needed posistionally. |
