I was thinking over the weekend; do you think there is anyway that Bryzgalov is on the Flyers roster by the start of the 2014-15 season? I can't see them wanting to keep that contract on the books regardless of his play or who could potentially replace him. His recent play has probably nudged this thought along too.

I think Briere is bought out after this season, Bryzgalov gets next year to improve, if not he's bought out.

The Flyers signed him to that contract. If they weren't going to be comfortable with that deal going forward, why would they have singed him to it? His play, not the contract is going to decide how long he stays in Philly.

I still have some hope they can right the ship. I understand where you are coming from though.

I honestly think, with some tweaking in how they place and with a few pieces added and some taken away, this team could come out next year and easily compete for a division or conference or whatever the thing is called, next year. There's far too much talent on the roster.

There is a good core to build on. Something is missing though. Meszaros hasn't looked very good in these two games. Not sure if it's rust or if he's still injured. Probably a bit of both.

This was before they had an out though, a before he became the most polarizing athlete in Philadelphia.

Also, his play this year started great but he has once again been inconsistent. Although, I blame the system more so than the goalie. It's pretty much a certain at this point that Bryz can only play in a tight defensive system (however, no goalie would have Vezina numbers with this team in front of him).

Edit: There was also no cap reformulation penalty in place when the contract was signed.

Lots could happen between now and the start of the 2014-15 season.

I would suppose that it's in Bryz's best interest to play at a higher level since, if he's bought out, I doubt he's going to get the same money on the open market that he's getting right now. No way.

There is zero margin of error right now. Can't afford to start Boucher/Leighton. Blame the GM for not having a legit backup to start the season.

I think they need to find a way to get rid of Bryz and danny this year....try to trade laughton + for bernier or bishopp and go young in goal also.

That's what I'd do. I would get the team to play a significantly better defensive game across the board. If this gets Bryz close to his Vezina candidate numbers, than it'd be worth keeping him.

I agree. I think he'd be getting contracts like Tomas Vokoun did last year with the Caps.

Yes. Bryzgalov certainly hasn't played great in his 82 starts as a Flyer. But he's been hung out to dry constantly. Even the elite goaltenders would look ordinary at times backstopping this team.

That being said, the Flyers are paying Bryz to be one of the elite.

Bryz is untradeable right now, IMO. And The Kings would want at least a 1st for Bernier which is no good. Laughton isn't a great prospect either.

Plus the cap reformulation penalty is in play, which I think will play a major role in a decision to buy him out or not.

Now because there is an out, they're all of a sudden going to be uncomfortable with the contract? They could care less that he is the most polarizing athlete in Philly. And I doubt they care about he Cap reformulation penalty. They care about one thing. And that's his play on the ice.

If you think Bryz is on the list of top five issues with this team I automatically dismiss your opinion.

I love bryz. He tells it how it is. Everyone else likes to sugarcoat. if not for his stellar play earlier this year we'd be in Seth jones heaven. I wish he were better on breakaways

I hate to be a broken record. But they aren't laxed. They simply don't know how to play with a lead. Because Laviolette's system is not effective if you play cautious in protecting a lead. If you don't gamble and go hard for the puck on the forecheck. That is the issue. There is no adjustment in their systems play installed by the Coach such as the Pens played in the 3rd period of the last game against them.
- MJL

The coach's "system" has worked in the past why isn't it working now?

I think he's been better this year than last, even though the numbers don't indicate it. Breakaways is a clear area that improvement is needed.

I was thinking about this as that puck squeezed through Bryz's pads and almost tied the game last night.

I think, more and more, that it's going to be Bryz that goes and not Briere.

- johndewar

every time one of the guys traded away gets hot everyone pines for that player and as soon as they come back to earth everyone jumps back off.

I'm no expert but I don't like Briere on the wing and I also prefer Schenn at center. Something has to give
