In an article at Yahoo, Nick Cotsonika spoke with a long-time equipment manager who said that having a visor attached to his helmet could have made Marc Staal’s injury worse.

The equipment manager said that the puck that hit Staal was coming at such a speed that it would have broken the visor and pieces of it could have hit his eye.

In conversation with the equipment manager, Cotsonika writes that visors are worn and designed to protect players from errant sticks and not “designed to stop slapshots fired from high-tech sticks at high speed, especially when the puck hits a player straight on. They break, and when they break, they have sharp edges.”

Ya know something Jimmy, I thought of that too, the visor breaking & the parts getting into Staal's eye & permanently F ing him up.

Captain obvious's observation of the day. Marc wears a visor, probably a full cage the rest of this year if/when he comes back.

I tell you, back when I started posting on Ranger blogs, like 1997, I used to get into such fights with people defending Neil Smith, I was negatively referred to as a "Smithie".

When the massive signings in summer of 1999 didn't work out he even lost me a supporter, but as time passes I really do appreciate all he did, building that team that not only won the Cup, but was such a force from the time he was hired in 1989 until the conference final appearance in 1997.

This is a great man, Mr. Neil Smith

I think the college type face guard is the only thing that woulda saved him from any injury. That was a freak play that cannot be avoided. It's like gods will yo. Gods will that he didn't get hurt worse. Praise jesus

But at least he wasn't faking like Richards did

Ottawa 2, Boston 0. I'm glad we are not alone. Maybe they're a pretty good young team and we just don't want to admit it. Long way to go in that one but just sayin...

I don't think their defense is credible, Gonchar and Phillips are old as dirt and the other are minor leaguers playing over their heads

They've given up the 2nd fewest goals in the East. I know it's jut a 26 game sample but they seem to really be buillding something. This is without Karlsson who I think is the best offensive defenseman to come around in a long long time. As I post this Boston just scored 2-1. I hope I'm wrong and Ottawa collapses.

They're good, but some of it is luck. I mean looked who's injured. They work hard no doubt and they give the Rangers fits.

They skate very well, they are young and play pretty free and simple. That being said I hope Boston comes back and gives us a little help

they're fast, skate well, and have great chemistry.

they don't match up well with the rangers imo because when we collapse and try to block shots, they skate effortlessly around us and seem to always find the open man.
