good points...i was surprised Em got the start to. The Brown goal is what happens when you get lazy in your zone with turnovers and not getting the clear at least on 2 attempts.

One thing that is troubling is that the Hawks have a tendency to play up/down to their opponents. I never worry about how they'll look vs. the Blue, Canucks or Kings, it's always the teams like Edm, CBJ and the Avs that seem that they seem to play down against. Whatever, take some time off and start winning again on Thursday.

just curious for some opinions: this team is tired & needs rest, agreed??
but with the deadline coming up, if there is a deal with the sens, with the center pieces being the beloved stalberg + going that way , & zach smith & chris neil coming back this way, does this make us a harder team to play against?? yes/ no?

- wonthecup10

Yes, do it as long as the + isn't Danault, McNeil or TT.

Edit: Part of the problem with this scenario is what value is Stalberg to the Sens given he's UFA this summer.

PP WAS TERRIBLE AGAIN TONIGHT , although I thought the refs sucked I really wish the Hawks could have cleared the zone against the Edmontons....

I'd be just fine coughing up this summer's first round pick if it brings in the right pieces. I do agree with you Mike, I'd like to hold onto these three prospects.

Shaw shouldn't be trying to fight Hall or rough him up at the faceoff in the first place.

I'd still like to see some tweaks on the 4th line. The team needs a traditional physical, defensively-responsible 4th that can chip in some offense. Still don't see enough disruption from that line. LA Kings 4th line in last year's playoffs was the gold standard IMO--or certainly very close.

IMHO, a 4th line can have a significant overall effect (good or bad) on team success. It may be another lower line physical center or a banger that can skate and help recover the puck during and after face offs. Dunno, but this is what Stan's gotta figure out. Jammer, as much as I respect him, can't be that guy--certainly every night.

Penalty kill KILLED the Hawks, that and not showing up to start the game, which goes on Emery and a bunch of Hawks standing around waving at pucks. A couple of these guys appear to be very tired and/or reading their own, ahem, "press clippings."

Hossa was the Hawks' best player: 1/1 +1, 7 takeaways.

JJ: I was there and have to disagree with you. I thought Kane was awesome and better tonight that Hossa

Not a fan of Chris Neal...I will pass. Don't know much about Zach Smith! I don't really care about or get into all the trade this for that banter. I am not sure why many here are so convinced the Hwks trip to cup land or an increased probablity of winning the cup is on another NHL roster at the moment.

Those 2 are signed for 3 and 4 more years respectively. So the question is Stanbow going to take on $4mil in contracts for the next 3 years while giving up UFA Stalberg? Sens are way under the cap already...why would they make this trd with no assurance they could sign Stalberg?

Mayers is old and slow, I get it. However, you can't trust either Hayes or Pirri to win face-offs. Pirri lacks any toughness or grit in his game, and really won't do the team any good unless he's skating on a scoring line. Hayes has been playing center in Rockford, and looks effing awful doing it. The guy is a wing. He's a big body and can play physical at times (when he chooses too), but I'd sooner rather have Mayers over Hayes due to Mayers experience and ability to win a draw.

They all played like ass tonight. No heart for the entire first period. They were not prepared either mentally, or by their coaches. 14 hits from Edmonton in the first period alone. Edmonton......out hits you in your own building....

yoo hoo...don't look now but the Ducks won again and are now 6 pts behind and have only 1 more loss in regulation.

so while the hwks have 3 days off followed by road gmes vs Jackets, Stars and Aves
the Ducks have road gmes vs Wild, Stars and Blues then home Sharks and Hawks next Wed.

oh...ohhh Jackets beat wings in BTB gmes and that's 4-0-1 for the season and have won 5 str. They get the nucks again before the Hwks.

Well the grueling schedule the hwks have been on gets a little easier. In the next 3 weeks they play 8 gmes with 13 days off!

The steal late in the game when the net was empty was one of the best plays I've ever seen. Didn't lead to a goal but wow

Just off the plane and home safely from a great stay in Saskatchewan...6 games in 9 nights, including a barnburner in Saskatoon last night...Mem Cup host Blades were down 7-3 and rallied to win 8-7 in overtime. Amazing comeback.

As for the Hawks...disappointing start and result. The buddy i stayed with in Sask is a huge Oilers fan and i watched their last 3 games with him.... where they looked nutless and lifeless...so for us to lose to them like this is a real PHUCKING BUMMER.

0-2 now without the GLUE GUY. Get well FAST Sharpie !!!!

Ducks will pass the Hawks with relative ease. Hawks may hold onto 2nd seed, but should win division so will fall no further than 3rd.

Gone in first or second round if current roster left unchanged. The streak was a nice surprise, but this is largely the same club as last year. 2013 will be remembered for the lockout, shortened season, "the streak", and the Bruins winning the cup.

...but then again, I'm probably way off the mark like usual.
