Guess my question was if Flyers traded Briere to Boston this month and Boston amnesty Briere, could the Flyers resign him because they aren't the team to amnesty him but Flyers were the team that gave him the contract

(Used Boston as example. not sure if they have cap room for Briere)

- sulshawn

Do you really want Briere back? If they trade him or amnesty him I would assume that he is done here in Philly.

We knew going into this season we didn't have the horses to run with the top teams. You can't expect anything other than the results we are getting. Lavi's can't make this team any more than marginally better.

Disagree completely. There is no reason why the Flyers can't be much better then they currently are.

But, but, but! The Devils play a trap system where they clog up the ice and take speed and skill out of the game. Do, you really want the Flyer forwards to start trapping?
- spatso

The Devils don't play a trap under Deboer. This is not 1995 and Jaques Lemaire is not the Coach.

What did you tell me earlier about how much I know about Hockey?

Because Carle is gone, Pronger is finished, Mesceros is still hurting and Timonen has put his initial deposit on a retirement villa. What part of slow and unskilled do you not understand.

The bigger question is why on earth would the Flyers re-sign Briere after getting rid of him? Makes no sense. He's the odd man out on this team. If he plays center he's displacing Schenn or Couts. If he plays wing he's a waste of space on the ice. He's no longer a fit on this team, despite his past heroics in the playoffs.

They can call it whatever name they want but when you put three forwards and two Dmen between the blue line to defend it is a duck.

Coaches can mess up a team. They can also push guys to accomplish above their talent level for a period of time.

But there is nothing a coach can do to help overcome the player frustration of a goalie letting in a bad goal every game. Over time it wears a team down. On the other hand, a coach cannot overcome a forecheck if the team does not have the back end skill to clear the zone. Great coaches know you need to get out of the way of great talent. You need to build your team around what your players are capable of doing (or, not doing).

I don't have enough hands each game to count how many golden scoring chances the other team gets. This has been happening for a couple years now. You talk about getting a #1 d. That's all well and good but it is not foreseeable. Since Pronger went down. Lava hasn't changed a damn thing. I don't think Ottawa is asking methot to become karlsson. A hurricane fan described to me why lava lost his job in Carolina. Seemingly he's learned nothing

Clowe would make a great flyer with Hartnell those two could be the leaders that hold players accountable and Giroux leading by example I would be inquiring about him if I where you guys all though you all want something done on D it would be a good first move

The Flyers Defense possesses enough skill and ability to be a solid playoff team. The makeup of the Flyers defense is not the reason why the Flyers are floundering as a team. You're exaggerating the Flyers defense as being slow. Not the case.

If the Flyers lose is Lava looking for a new job on Monday?
- LJF

STHs have a town meeting with Lava and Homer tomorrow night. I won't be making it even though I have a ticket. Because whether they are still employed or not, there's nothing they can say that will make any sense.

I live in Carolina and was a season ticket holder. That Cup team got over the hump at the trade deadline. It was personnel that was lacking. After the cup season those rentals were gone and a few pieces went and got paid as well. Jim Rutherford did nothing to restock the shelves. The cupboard was bare and Lavi paid the price, not Jim.

It's not what they call it, it's what you're calling it. The Devils play an aggressive system of forechecking, and solid defense through all 3 zones of the ice. They are not an neutral zone trapping team. I find it interesting that you'll publicly question the Hockey knowledge of someone else, but yet have no idea what a neutral zone trap is.

I don't think he was asking the question as a proposal but as a hypothetical. If a team trades a guy now, he is bought out by the team that traded for him, could the team that traded him away then sign him to a new deal.

The Ottawa example is really good. If a team casually puts a puck into the Ottawa end Karlsson walked it right back out. It was the beginning of a counter attack.

Karlsson goes down. How has Ottawa survived? It is not Methot who has picked up the slack, although he has played well. The guy who has been playing a lot more is Gonchar and, to a lesser extent, Wiercoche.

Ottawa has survived because they play a solid team game that supports it's player to make up for the loss of talent and ability. And the Coach has installed those principles in it's game. Something the Flyers lack.

Coburn is playing like a 6th d-man who is playing top pairing minutes and responsibilities. I think with his age and experience, Coburn will always be an inconsistent d-man who needs a strong defensive partner to assist him. If Grossmann and Schenn are the long-term stay at-home d-men in the top 4, Coburn has to be replaced and upgraded. It is unfortunate, but a reality.

This is why the example of a sophomore slump doesn't fly to me. By and large, it's not the kids.

Brayden Schenn has played well. Couturier had been playing excellent defensively, despite his offensive struggles. The veterans are killing them.
