At the end of it all, the issues to me are much larger than a system, or the current coach.

The stem from a lack of direction, identity, patience and structure from the top of the organization.

- flyer_nutter

The single biggest issue with this team right now, is without a doubt the Coach. He has failed to adjust to his personel. And he has failed to correct the repeated errors on the ice. In which a lot of those errors, are due to that failure to adjust.

Every team above the Flyers this season has shown more consistency as a group then they have.
- flyer_nutter

Its naive to think that no other team has players with consistency issues,
the flyers have several though right now, and that's not a winning combination.

Coburn's inconsistency is known. Timmonen, on the other hand, has been a consistent player his whole career, but not his age has caught up with him, and he can't be that consistent player anymore, which is a shame.

Quite simple. A player who ignores the Coaches direction and decides to do it his way, simply doesn't play. Doesn't get PP time. Has his ice time reduced, etc.
- MJL

Flyers down by a goal on a PP in the last two minutes of the game. Do you really want to see Talbot out there? Gervais on the point?

What identity do the Flyers have right now?

Or have they had for the past few seasons. You dont have to list them all.

That I agree with.

But, some of those decision might have been taken out of Lavi's hand with the TDL fast approaching. Might.

I don't care what identity they have. I care about how they play on the ice.

In theory no, but I don't want to see a guy with 1 goal and an assist sitting while another player who is -3 on the night get the chance on the last minute of the game, just because of their names (rinaldo vs. briere)

Lava certainly has benched/cut minutes from guys for far less.

If a Coach using the tools he has to discipline players who are not following direction, then it is up to the GM to do what he has to do.

What I am getting at it the top teams show consistency in their games. That is what makes them the best, and it starts with every player.

The Flyers for years now have been absolute dynamite one night, and horsepoop 3 nights later.

Your top players have been playing in third gear so you just cut their PP time.

So an indentity is not a key to winning a Stanley Cup?

Coaches have talked about identity for years, and not just here. Boston, Chicago and Detriot do not have an identity as an organization?

Or they just sign a bunch of guys and throw the on the ice. That structure and direction you speak of, needs to start at the top.

They can start that structure by buying out Bryz and Briere.

Maybe he's justified because he sees something we don't.

I think we all agree that a coach can only do so much.

The following players and their performance are big problems this season: Talbot, Couts, Briere, Gus, Gervais, Coburn, and Feds.

How is a coach supposed to address that many problems, especially with as many injuries as the Flyers have had? Add on top of that the inconsistent performance of this team's "best" players and there are some major issues.

I wanted him as well but if I remember correctly he was the issue in Washington. That same team that stinks this year without him.

Not the identity that you speak of. Playing well and playing the right way, along with talent, and Coaching, is what wins Cups.

Detriot for years has been a club that is all about puck possession.

Boston is a tough physical club, that will grind you down and their strength is from the net out.

Chicago is an up-tempo, aggressive, initiate the play club that requires speed.

Don't get me wrong, I agree totally. I'm just saying this team has more "inconsistent" players on the roster than the teams above them. Which is why they are where they are right now.
