Ahh! You got to learn to ignore all these Oiler Mother (frank)ers. Misery loves company & they are just ecstatic their Alberta cousins will be joining them soon.

After some thought, I think it is time to look at the Calgary Flames as an investor may look at a prospective business opportunity. This, as in the most prudent Jobsian way, would be to categorize the team in 3's- strengths and weaknesses. Having said that:
Strengths:
1) They have a rabid, loyal, dedicated base of fans in a capital-rich Canadian market. This is not the Calgary of '96, and there is no risk of them ever packing up and leaving for greener pastures.
2) Their 'alternate' jerseys are ones that rival the excellence of the original 6 jerseys. If they only bring them back full time, along with the whites, this strength will only be improved upon.
3) As for the on ice product, there are a few bright spots for the future: Gio, Backlund, Baert, Gaudreau, Granlund, Brodie

Weaknesses:
1) As with any business, one must begin at the top. Looking at the Flames, they are ran by Ken King, a man much more concerned with the bottom line than the prospects of ever winning a Stanley Cup. Yes, the owner may have culpability in this, but the lack of King to assert any kind of dissenting voice to the current path is disheartening.
2) The two most marketable and consistent chips since MacInnis/Fleury/Suter/Vernon/Nieuwy left....Kipper and Iggy (I hate to admit) can no longer take over games as they once could. Their talent was wasted in the prime of their careers, and are now left to rot and to be exposed by the lack of a cast.
a- Kipper, whether through disinterest or just disgusted apathy, does not seem in it anymore. I feel he may just play out the stretch and move back to Finland, and if so, good for him. He deserved better, but this season's complete disregard for defense has allowed the book on him (known to teams for years) to be employed. Let him go down or commit, and either shoot high right or pass for the open net. He is no longer a trade chip, and his defense is a shell of what it was in his height. There is not even a Warrener on this team
b- Iginla, seemingly more disinterested by the day, clearly wants out. His face after the 6th goal summed it up - that was his ultimate resignation, and understanding, that he can nor will never Captain a team to a cup. He has too many miles to will a team to victory. It just so happens this synergistic-ally happened at the same time as 34.
c) The payroll is bloated, and after 12/34 leave, they will have to pay in excess to sign free agents. Until the next group comes in and proves they will be the 3rd crop of a Calgary Flames core, the franchise is destined for mediocrity and worse.

In short- this franchise is demoted from HOLD to SELL.
