Its not that he is as much part of the problem as he is the solution. Every player matters.

How many of the top teams in the league would want him on their fourth line? Or their PK? Not too many.

Him and Talbot should watch some shifts of Lappy and Betts before his chronic shoulder problems flared up, if they want to see what is required of them.

my only issue w/ him is when he plays C, because he's abysmal at the dot. he's been a winger virtually all of his career, though.

OEL w/ a dazzling move leading to a goal, btw.

I thought I read a post from Jsqua earlier in the thread that Lava 5-17-1 against the Rangers, Debs, and Pens. I'm not sure how to analyze this info. other then his philosophy just isn't good enough or his in-game strategy just isn't on par with those other teams.

I believe it is against the Rangers and Devils only.

The Flyers do tend to struggle against the defensive teams of the league that have solid goaltending.

What basis are you stating that not too many top teams wouldn't want them on their PK? Are you considering that Fedetenko has been a member of 2 Cup winning teams. And has recently played for two top teams in the Pens the Rangers. You don't bring a player like Fedetenko in to be a "solution." You bring him in to be a role player and to provide veteran leadership.

Talbot and Fedetenko lead all Flyers forwards in PK icetime. The Flyers PK is 11th in the NHL at 82.9%.
The last Season where Betts and Lappariere led all Flyers forwards in PK icetime was 09/10. Where the Flyers PK was ranked 11th in the NHL at 83%.
So stating that they should watch some shifts of Lappy and Betts on the PK seems baseless. And Lappy and Betts had Pronger and a much better Timonen playing on the PK with them.

So any thoughts on why Leighton is called up and Boosh sent down?
Other than that is clearly why the Flyers suck this season!

That's the Rangers & Devils for this season and last, including the playoffs.

That includes 6 game losing streaks against both teams.

Fedetenko has never been a guy who's taken a lot of faceoffs in his career. So if they're asking him to do so, I'd say that is on management.

At the end of the day I believe the team needs to find a better solution to a guy like Fedentenko. I personally dont mind a PK that is 11th in the NHL but that could be better. Special teams are huge in this league.

5 on 5 he provides very little aside from decent defensive play.

This is like Nodl all over again. Sure he is a decent player, but there are better options. You bring up his past credentials. If he was so solid why did those teams let him go? Not that is he declining.

I am not really in a debating mood, so I will head off for the evening.

Apparently, come late July we will have a new Flyers fan in the mix. Hopefully she stays away from all you birds.

Thanks for the clarification. I imagine if you would include the Bruins in that record even with the playoff round win, it wouldn't look pretty.

Its really getting tough to watch this team. I'm glad I didn't get a chance to watch the last two games. I'm not sure there is really much veteran leadership on this team right now, when a lot of the vets are committing as many bone headed plays as some of the younger guys. Arguably Rinaldo has been the Flyer who has played to almost his optimal level in his role, which is pretty damming to the rest of the roster.

It's not like Nodl all over again. Nodl was a young player trying to build an NHL career for himself. Fedetenko is a proven role player and veteran forward in the NHL. Who's been a contributing member of 2 Cup winning teams. The same thought that the Flyers PK could be better applies to when Lappy and Betts were here. But you offered them as an example of what Fedetenko and Talbot should follow. When the numbers are the same. Fedetneko provides exactly what he was brought in here for.

Fedotenko has been on ice for 12 even strength goals. Claude Giroux has been on ice for 16 even strength goals. Considering the increased amount of time Giroux plays... that's awful, and not awful for Fedotenko. Fine, everyone deserves a finger point, but for every finger pointed at him, about 4-5 need to be pointed at the captain. He's the guy that's actually supposed to be the solution, and he's not getting the job done outside of the PP
