I would try to sign Emery in the offseason. Even if its for the backup role.

Nope
Thats a walk in the park for Holmer
By going batpoop crazy im talking about going Weber on Pietrangelo, trading Couts, Read, top prospects, our 1st, somehow getting Perry and buying out Bryz and Briere

- FLYERSROCK!

So the big difference between that and your plan is that going batpoop insane would be the one that actually addresses the biggest need of the team by going after a good, number one defenseman

He's really turned things around lately. Week or so ago, he was having a lot of issues. Whatever he did has worked so far.

Good for him.

Whatever is happening to the Flyers right now is not only coaching. Coaching is a part of it, but it is only a symptom of a larger problem: the team has changed how they want to build the team seemingly each year.

One year: we have Carter and Richards with a friendly coach
Another year: Things are too buddy buddy and not uptempo enough, so let's bring in an uptempo, in your face coach. But let's not spend any money on goalies
Another year: Got swept by the Bruins, so let's trade Carter and Richards and remake the team.
Another year: Goaltending is horrible, so let's go all out on a goalie
Another year: That didn't quite work, and we suck at drafting defensemen, so let's go all out with Weber and Suter.
This year: That didn't work, and we're sick of playing uptempo, so let's possibly fire our coach, and possibly trade for Bouwmeester or Byfugly.

All these things are just a symptom of the larger problem: we have too many forwards, can't draft D or goalies for poop, and change how we want to play and who we build around almost every other year.

When people talk about NJ and their system, they know what they want, and their plan hasn't changed much. The organization knows what it wants, and waits to get it.

The Flyers can change their coach and preach better D, but until they can actually draft goalies and defensemen, this kind of poop will continue.

Really a great post, and what I have been trying to bring across for a few days.

This comes down to organizational issues. The Flyers need to find an identity they really want to stick with. Find players that FIT that identity, and more than anything identify players that are hard workers first and foremost. You can have all the talent in the world, but that means nothing with inconsistency.

Boiled down, the problem seems to be two letters.

I honestly think it goes beyond that, to the owner. Not that he's the problem, but his impatience with things can be a negative at times.

Pretty much, yes.
If we miss, which is looking very very likely, then theres no way, 0% chance Homer does just like a minor move. We know better.
I fully expect him to offersheet Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk.
I also dont think we will keep our 1st round pick this year either
Honestly, anything Homer throws at St. Lou for Pietrangelo will be matched I think. Even if its like the Getzlaf contract. No way St. Louis lets him go

Could go after Carlson in Washington...
i dont know what Homer is gonna do. Im sure poop will fly, i just hope he doesnt do anything too stupid that sets the team back

I point the fingers at everyone to be honest.

Players, GM, coaching staff, all of it. If Lava is on the hot-seat you know Holmgren will be if this summer doesnt produce immediate results for next season.

I see the Bryzgalov experiment coming to an end.

Nope.

Owner.

The owner is the one that told the GM to get a big name goalie. The owner is the one that keeps chasing the previous season's Stanley Cup. The Gm's just his cat's paw.

These problems have been here since before Homer. This is just the organization as a whole. Can't draft D, can't draft goalies, trade people away for needs because they can't draft for them. This was Clarke, too.
