flyers need to DRAFT a goaltender, and stop talking about other teams castoffs like hilller, the guy hasn't ever won poop and you think he will be any different than bryz, boucher multiple times, leighton multiple times, but as a said before as a devils fan i would give holmgern i a new 10 year deal.

Aside from a new coach?

What would you be looking at doing? In terms of FA/trades/buyouts/Bryzgalov.

That would be the perfect solution as long as Briere would be willing.

Tell him you're going to buy him out. If he wants a shot at a ring, he'll give Homler a list a teams he'd be willing to be moved to.

I understand he doesn't want to move because of his kids, but he'll be moving anyway if he's shown the door so...

If we get Perry one or both of Danny and Bryz are going.
Homer will blow poop up. Literally. If we get a top 5 pick, I wouldn't be surprised to be seeing Couts+ gone for someone like Shattenkirk or OEL.
This offseason should be very interesting. I dont like that we dont wait out for our players to progress and come into their own... Couts is having a bad season, he really is. But its the typical sophomore slump that has claimed many great players, including Drew Doughty.
All i would personally do this offseason is sign Perry, buyout Danny, Bryz. Package Read+Cousins/Laughton, maybe more for Bernier. Draft a dman like Nikita Zadorov, Ryan Pulock or Darnell Nurse. All future top pairing guys

Knowing Homer he will go batpoop crazy, offersheet Pietrangelo to a (frank)ing stupid contract, trade 1/2 our team and prospects and blow poop up

So signing a guy to an $8mm a year hit, buying out $11mm in contracts, trading Read & a top prospect + for a young untested goalie ISN'T going batpoop crazy?

I'm with you. Do what it takes. This team isn't a serious contender. They may not even make the playoffs. You have to trade away some pieces before the deadline. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Coburn or Mez moved in a package either.

A guy like Hiller, Bishop or Backstrom will not be top goaltenders in the league. Even though Hiller and Backstrom have shown they can be for stretches.

As hard as it is to find a true #1 dman it is also hard to get that kind of goaltender. Regarding Hiller, I think he gives you a similar performance to Bryzgalov at the very least, causes less drama, and the contract looks better. Same goes for Backstrom.

What do you think it would cost to trade for him? A first and a roster player?

I think his cap friendly contract might drive the price up.

It's hard to say, because I'd use the time that the new coach is running things to make player assessments.

I'd try to add a good solid young defenseman, without hugely overpaying. That probably means a kid like David Rundblad and not an established guy. Briere'd be gone, either at the TDL or as a buyout.

I'd personally wait on Bryz, but no idea if they will.

Flyers did draft a goaltender. Unfortunately the coach had no confidence in him.

Nope
Thats a walk in the park for Holmer
By going batpoop crazy im talking about going Weber on Pietrangelo, trading Couts, Read, top prospects, our 1st, somehow getting Perry and buying out Bryz and Briere

Whatever is happening to the Flyers right now is not only coaching. Coaching is a part of it, but it is only a symptom of a larger problem: the team has changed how they want to build the team seemingly each year.

One year: we have Carter and Richards with a friendly coach
Another year: Things are too buddy buddy and not uptempo enough, so let's bring in an uptempo, in your face coach. But let's not spend any money on goalies
Another year: Got swept by the Bruins, so let's trade Carter and Richards and remake the team.
Another year: Goaltending is horrible, so let's go all out on a goalie
Another year: That didn't quite work, and we suck at drafting defensemen, so let's go all out with Weber and Suter.
This year: That didn't work, and we're sick of playing uptempo, so let's possibly fire our coach, and possibly trade for Bouwmeester or Byfugly.

All these things are just a symptom of the larger problem: we have too many forwards, can't draft D or goalies for poop, and change how we want to play and who we build around almost every other year.

When people talk about NJ and their system, they know what they want, and their plan hasn't changed much. The organization knows what it wants, and waits to get it.

The Flyers can change their coach and preach better D, but until they can actually draft goalies and defensemen, this kind of poop will continue.
