Probably not. I did NOT like the deal when they signed him. There was no reason for the timing or the amount in my opinion.

He is definitely a player in a steep decline, injuries are playing a big part of this. I understand the reasoning behind the signing but I definitely do not agree with it. As he is now he is not a 6 million dollar dman. He isn't even a 4 million dollar dman.

Looking at cap geek for next season I think this one is going to bite them in the ass.

I agree. Stated the same opinion the day after. Was asked who was going to replace him? Not sure who but Timonen can't stay healthy (which means he plays hurt). The market is pretty dry so Homer decided this was his best option. Don't like it though.

Bobrovsky save % .913
Bryzgalov save % .899

How are we explaining this? Must be the juggernaut Blue Jackets commitment to team defense.

- PLindbergh31

I'm not even going to bother to defend it. I'm as irritated by it now as you are. Even if it's not all his fault, he has to play better.

If i'm danny, i realize i'm getting bought out nxt yr, so if they sent him to a real cup contender, it's a win/win....

Danny saves himself every year in the playoffs. Might not be an option this year.

Ottawa minus Spezza, Karlsson, and Anderson beat the Rags again.

12-1-1 in their last 14 games at MSG. (frank)ing Tortorella's skull on the regular.

Ottawa plays with a lot of heart.

I think you're right. I'm okay with bringing him back. But not at 6M
- MJL

Yeah, the amount is what really ticked me off the most. They tried to spin at it being actually a lower cap hit. True, but it is still 3 million dollars too much. And if Timo wasn't going to accept that, you thank him for his service and let him uproot him family and life and play for someone who WILL overpay for a season.

Columbus actually plays defense sometimes. The Flyers not so much.
- MBFlyerfan

I admit I never watch Columbus, looking at their roster it's trash. As is their front office.

Bryzgalov has been more consistent this year than last, which his numbers do not indicate. I guess the team defense has gotten worse since last year which is hard to believe.

FLyers need to tighten up their overall game, and Timonen will be just fine. My problem isn't that Timonen is coming back next year. It's that it's for 6M. That's too much. 3 or 4M would have been more like it.
- MJL

most def. he's playing more like a 3rd pairing guy who's worth about half of what he'll be getting.

A poster here assured me other teams would have paid him 6.5m or 7m for next season, but I don't believe that.

He's been hung out to dry constantly. Not all his fault by any means. His play has to improve though as he hasn't been as good or consistent in the last few weeks.

I wouldn't rule out fatigue, killer schedule, and no credible backup.

The thing is people will say he's playing injured and thats really hurting his game right now. However, I been hearing this same story for three years now. Thats fantastic that he plays hurt but its not fantastic that he's constantly hurt.

Agreed. At the time with all the injuries, it seemed like a good insurance policy. But that was a month ago before we realized that he was in such decline. We do look better with Mez back in the line up though.

Need more from him. The defense isn't that great but his poke checking skills aren't helping him either. He has to start making some "huge" saves. The Ottawa game he was outstanding (stealing the game).

I'm not even sure who is healthy for the Blue Jackets on Defense. The Blue Jackets have had more defensive injuries to their top 4 than the Flyers have had by far yet their tender finds a way to keep a respectable sv %

Fantastic to see Chicagos streak end last night. The 35 gamer stands. Unfortunately this is the only positive I can take from the team this week. I don't expect a win in Boston and it may be a blowout. If we lose today and tomorrow, no way we make the playoffs. Trade the vets you can and plan to fix the d for next year. If we're not going to make it. Sink to the bottom.

Not to argue semantics, but I think it's more banged up then hurt. And I think it's the same for every defenseman. Constantly taking hits, blocking shots, etc. There's no doubt that Grossmann is banged up right now.

Never know with the Flyers brass. They could decide that hes not worth keeping around for another 6-7 years.

I blame Laviolette for Timonen's 6 million dollar salary for next year. Holmgren wanted to give Kimmo 3 or 4 million, Laviolette demanded he get 6.

Either way you want to say it: hurt or banged up he still has that issue every year. Like you said all defenseman go through it. I just think Timonen isn't worth that extension. I said that when the deal was signed.

I hope he can make some huge saves today. I think he's going to need to for the FLyers to have a chance.

This is not all on bryzgalov as the early part of the season he kept it respectable, but I never liked trading bob and then cheaping out on a backup who can't even spell bryzgalov for a period.

Looking at next season on Capgeek, I am getting more and more convinced that the Flyers may indeed buy out Briere AND BRYZGALOV.

Homer will try to make a deal for Ray Emery or something similar. It depends on who is the coach. I am convinced it will NOT be Laviolette.

Its just a feeling, I have no factual basis for it.

The trouble is, you could probably get the same level of goaltending for a lot less cash. Granted you don't get the guy with the level of success Bryzgalov had, especially in Phoenix, but right now, the Flyers style of play, combined with the poor execution what does it matter?

They're paying Ferrari prices for a Corvette and using it to plow parking lots.
