Cause he has a $6 mil price tag and the cap is going down to $64 mil. He is definitely tradeable, just not as easy as Oiler fans would like. Alot of teams would love to have him, ex. Columbus
- Champ

Eberle's coming in at 6 million next year as well. Every team would take both.

Dear Richard,

Why do you list the players you want to keep in every single blog? Ok., we get it, you somehow want to improve your team without moving one of your top picks/prospects.

Perhaps it would be prudent to remind you of the time the Raptors - eerily similar to the Oilers - drafted Damon Stoudamire, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, and Marcus Camby: Shoulda been the best team in the NBA for years. I don't have a point, but the paralells are interesting.

Also, I have to wonder if the Oilers are waiting to see if Darcy Rieger gets fired first, but what possible reason do they have on waiting on Lindy Ruff? Scoop him up now!!

- Jimmy_Tea

Ruff seems so obvious for the Oilers, from Warburg, proven, good with kids. Someone is going to scoop him before the end of the season, maybe Tampa, maybe back to Florida, maybe even Winnipeg.

I suppose if the plan is a complete shake up at the top, then no point making a coaching change now, but not often a guy like Ruff comes available

Doesn't really work for us right now. Maybe at the draft if we get a centre, but I'd want a proven player back for Sam.

Oh and yeah, NYI would be adding a pick and not EDM. A 2nd at worse.

Tambi does not run the team, that would be Lowe and he needs to go.

I see no need for a puck moving D man, we cannot create offence or defence because we cannot win a board battles, we are too small.

Everyone knows how to defend against us, because we cannot go along the boards.

Teams love playing us, there is no fear or intimidation and there is no pressure on the back check (clog the middle of the ice and we are done).

The bottom line is that we need bigger bodies, even if we need to move one of the kids to get some.

Being a fan of a team with sub-par management for so long I can sympathize a bit with edmontons current situation. The old boys club needs to be flushed down the tubes. Lowe, Mctavish, Tambo and any other past oiler currently in management. The few games I have watched there seems to be no team heart or accountability.

Just an observation. Giving kids mega dollars when they never even finished their entry level deal let alone a bridge contract, especially more than one on the same team cannot be healthy. What vets would like to come into that team after spending years in the league and try to assist these kids in developing further? And would they even listen. Kinda like the golden spoon analogy. Thoughts that's all.

Gagner would be great for Calgary. They probably won't trade ever, but what about Gio for Gags?

After going through all of Gagner's growing pains, there is no way I want to see him moved. Especially with our lack of depth at center.

exactly.... holding onto all of these talented small forwards without size around them is a waste of their talent. need a better balance upfront... throughout all 4 lines.

I'm helping you plan your parade...

Seriously though. You mentioned the age of the team. Yes THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM. You want them to play like 25+ year old vets, but they won't. It's a little boys club. EDM needs to trade one of their top 6 for a early 30's VETERAN who can be top 6 and slap the crap out your little babies when they need it done. Somebody who has been there, done that. You need a C. Something crazy.

Option 1: Trade Nail + 1st or Nuge +1st to Dallas for MORROW and 2nd. Make him the captain.
Option 2: Trade Hall, Yak, 1st to NYR for Callahan & Del Zotto OR Staal. New C who has some actual HEART. You get a top 4 D man with experience. Sends the message to the team that NO YOU ARE NOT UNTOUCHABLE. Quit playing like babies or we'll ship your butt out for people who will WILL play.

I don't see Edmonton getting better even if you do draft 1st again. You'll bring in another kid. Throw him in the fire. And continue to basically field the Oil Kings A squad in the NHL. Draft for WHAT YOU NEED. Don't take the best player on the board. You need a big 1D guy? Draft JONES. You need a big gritty Crosby-Like top 6. Take Drouin. BUT MACKINNON BETTER? No. You don't need another cupcake sized my little pony forward. You don't need skill forwards. You need to draft a GERD DERM PERWER FERWERD. Trade down, get what you need, improve your assets with that trade. But nope. With the first overall selection, Edmonton selects Nathan MacKinnon. I think Philly's goalie weighs more than your entire top line...

Wow...I got through a few pages and cant take anymore...

All the wizards out there saying do this, do that. Go get Lucic. Go get Clowe. Go get Perry. Go get OEL, Go get Peitrangelo...

None of them are available folks! And even if they were, it would cost more than they are worth and end up setting the team back even further. The Oilers cant fill a hole by creating another hole. Hence Clouts consantly talking about the untouchables. If we give up one of them, then we have another huge gapeing hole...So trading Nuge or Yak or Ebs or Hall for anyone does not make sense. None.

I think Lowe should finally have to face the music. This rebuild would be so much further ahead if he hadnt (frank)ed up so badly 2007-2010. Its his fault this team has sucked.

I hate to see them lose, but they need to keep the core, get rid of what ever pilons they can for players or picks that will help. Not lateral moves.

Why would edm have to add to get nino? Nino has barely any NHL experience regardless of his draft position. Nino+ for Gagner and if I was edm, I would not want a pick, more like another young roster player to help edm.

Maybe we have too many "untouchabels". How does a team one loss away from being in last place have 16 players they are not willing to part with. I can't help put think that shuffling a couple of bottom 6 forwards and a couple of d-men isn't going to solve the problem . The issue isn't talent, it's balance and experience and our top 6 has none of that.
